System now in Bn ns* A Brilliant Reception. After the Heel was put up last night, the Protection boys adjourned to the Firemens hall and held a very brilliant and recherche reception, in honor of “Farale," (Mr. J.' J. Farns worth) whole soon to leavens for his old home in Knoxville. A har monica was produced, and the boys officiated therewith by turns, while the rest "tripped the light fantastlo” number nines, or glided like swans, gazelles and other gracoful things, through the "mazes of tho waltz." Half of the boys removed their coats which distinguished him as a lady. A smoking pot of coffee arrived shortly from mother llowe.. K-ranss, the baker, furnished the buns, dough nuts, and other good things, Mr. Middelton got a box of cigars, and the boys were fixed for a good time. The gentlemen then escorted their “ladies” to tho “banqueting table,” which “fairly groaned beneath its loads of delicious ’viands,” etc. But no American jollification is complete without a speech, and one after another displayed his "oratory” in a manner highly satisfactory to his comrades. Even “Uncle John Green” as the lioys call him, had to^ malft a speech. Ed Herzog says it was a “full dress ball,” but we will venture The following words. of warning from the Madisonian applies equally as well to ourfttlr "city by the seat” "Recent developments speak in thun der tones to the parents of this, city, and 'unless parents keep a more watohfal sye over their sons, that many of them will live to regret it. A Fire. An alarm last night at eleven brought the firemen out in double- quick order, only to find the' cause nothing but a small out building' in the rear of the Osgood brlok build' ing in frill blaze. The Protections got a stream on it, just not to be cheated out of the ftw, but there was really no occagtau for it The fire must have MHBttted by some per son, either frot^ Ctleaire to create a sonsatibn, or frorJr bu honest desire to clear away the old shanty, which was really ot> eyq aory. , .
