A conference of representatives of the various railroads of the State was hold before tbe Railroad Commission in Atlanta on Tuesday last to con sider the reduction of passenger rates. Nearly every road of impor tance was represented, and the uni versal opinion of all seemed to be that any further reduction of rates would be ruinous to the roads, citing the example of tho heavy North ern lines through thickly set tled country, all of whom charge 3c. per mile. Passenger Agent J. M. Brown, of the Western & Atlantic, in his remarks admitted that his road was merely making an experi ment In its 2jc. rate, and further said that he believed the circumstances were more in favor of that road than probably any other in the State. The Atlanta Constitution remarks that if the various towns trying to advertise themselves would deposit one thousaud dollars with their Ideal papers, they would stand a better 'chance of getting their money back' than'by resorting to hand bills and two-tqeh circulars. This advise from the Constitution Is eminently correct, bnt it might also have added or “page ‘write-up’ in the'big city papers.” ' ' . Tho latest fad in social gatherings is the pig party. Everybody in at tendance is given paper and pencil and required to draw two pigs. The drawing must be made without tak ing the pencil from the paper, and the second pig must be drawn with the eyes blindfolded, after which tho name is signed. The fun comos in when a comparison is made, and a prize is awarded the best draughts man. The person making the worst drawing is called the pig.
