In the so called rtsa-stuil j'evers, such ns typhus, typhoid, r. l...-ing and yellow fever, the cause i. a uinlitu vegetable organism that seeuis to attain its full de velopment within a very short time, after which it produces its progeny and dies. There is no more clianco of one of them becoming chronio than there is of raising several crops of oats or barley from onco sowing the seed. These are, truly, tho “seif limited" diseases. It is fortunate in many particulars that such a large proportion of diseases are of this charac ter. It makes but little difference in the treatment of them what the drugs used may be, so long as the strength is kept upvand no harm is done. Tlio main thing is to keep tho patient alive a given number of days, when, the cause ex hausts itself and recovery ought to fol low.—Globe-JDemocrat. Among the Afghans' marriage is a case of purchasing tho bride. A rich Afghan marries early, simply because ho cause he can afford to pay for a wife, while a poor one often remains singlo until middle life, on account of his ina bility to purchase. If tire husband dies and the yridow wishes to marry again, she or her friends have to refund the purchase money to the friends of the dead husband.
