Over $300 has already been raised, and forty-seven members enrolled. We shall soon see this much need Christian enterprise in working order. t Judge Brown is making himself a record, and for years to come several of our citizens will instinctively reach for their pocket books whenever his name is mentioned. Tardiness is an unpardonable sin in his sight, and he does ail he can to make his fines pay that “$200 a day’ that he fre quently reminds them it cost to run the court. Tho Georgia Press Association will bo in Brunswick on Saturday next, accompanied by their wives and daughters, coming on a special train as the guests of tho East Tennessee railroad. When they reach .our city it will be not only appropriate' but al most obligatory upon our people that we meet them, welcome them to our hearts and homes, and provide some pleasures and diversions for them—in shortshow up one town and people as hospitable and wide-awake. A committee of Council and citi zens has already been appointed, but we do not learn that they have taken any action in regard to the matter. Tho time is drawing short, and some thing should be done at once. It is truo that the St. Simons Hotel Co. intend to give them an excursion to theTsland (than which nothing could be more appropriate or pleasant) but even upon this excursion the city and citizens should be represented, and when they return to the city they then become the city’s guests. Wo hope the committee will take the mat ter under advisement nnd make netf essary arrangements. Gratefhl A« the INKS. bwledffementflfrom ttectyons. Messrs. The Harnett House at Savannah, Gn., says the Boston Courier, is an old stand-by, and is probably better known to travelers than many larger houses. Mr. M. L. Harnett is still the manager, am^ not only has a pleasant word for every incomer, but also is full of explicit information, which he readily imparls, a qualifi cation, which is met with far less often than desired. Tho Harnett House is very handy to the horse cars running to the railroad stations nnd steamer wharves. may2-ltn. Standard Time. There are two sides to every ques tion. This is what W. F. Allen says of Brunswick’s change in the Trav elers’ Official Railway Guide of May 1888: Central standard time has been adopted by the city' of Brunswick, Ga., dating from May 1, 1888, the hands of the city clocks being set back thirty-six minutes. In this, us in all other cities, people of uverago intelligence will find no trouble what ever in conforming to the new stand ard. All affairs previously arranged for eight o’clock will hereafter be ar ranged for seven-thirty, the former one o’clock dinner will be had at twelve-thirty, and so on through the day. Only the ignorant and those hide bound sun worshippers, who im agine the old local timo to havo been directly regulated by the position of the sun, will exporience any difficul ty. The case of people who are so lazy as to refuse to commence work at 6:30 a. m. by tho standard in place of 7:00 a. in. by the old time would be hopeleap if it were not ludicrous. The pormfincnt adherence of the city to Standard Timo will depend upon whether present intelligence con tinues to control its affairs, or igno ranee and blind superstition hereaf ter prevail. Mrs. W. C. Sibley, State President of the Woman’s Christian Temper ance Union of Georgia, has issued a call of the woman’s temperance work ers in the State, to convene in Atlan ta May 29, 30 and’3I. This 4s the sixth annual convention ever held in Georgia, and a large attendance is expected. The , ladles have assumed the ressonsiblllty for tho furnishing ot the new rooms of the Association,' so soon to be fin- ished and occupied. When fifty ladies put their heads together to no complish any ono thing, that thing will be accomplished and in tho best of style at that, and they wlji cer tainly make the “paper carnival” a success, socially, financially and in every other way. Tin! object too should bo one dear to every heart. Just now the Y. M. C. A. needs more assistance than it probably ever will qgaib, and therefore that aid should not be with-held or stinted. Give the ladies a good attendance, and they will give you a pleasant evening. If you want the genuine English tooth brush, call on Lloyd & Adams. The.Sutton Case Has been engaging the court during the day, and at our lust report from tho court room the prisoner had con cluded his statement, interrupted at noon by tho spasm or fit which seized one of-the jurors, Mr. Horace Robin son, nnd the argument of Judge Wright for tho defense had begun.
