A MECHANICAL WON OCA. A riorU In c.rre.uy That la * MamI at MM-hi.nlrd i...„ln.-l)rlef Urwrlptloe. A copy of Tho BNUnpn (Germany) 8wnvtiva?l,ler, Imml.xl Itt by a German frieml. contains tl:o description of a wooteful dock. which, being translated, tinft<i- tltix fiiihlnm About a yen* ago a (dcntlflo clock wait on exhibition liere. tlio tanker of which Hr. Martin, railed Ittito Eighth Wondara 1 tho World. Judge* in the nutter of docks found this dcsliriuition exnmyprttMl as tho work, on claeoa^naS^fid^ toatuot iJwE an, how* to tnakn tho impression which the high description *led ~ * " colored . i Med people Two Black Forest dook maker*, Haenslo and Augustas Noll, ban, in too con courae of tho year a clock very ever, created in work which place* tho Martin clock very much in the shade. This Haende and Noil dock haa a height of a 90 meter*, width 8 meter* and dapth 1 meter; It is boilt in the style of tho renaissance, and with lie figures and carvings, executed In truly nrtlstio manner. The dock show* the seconds and strikes the hours, quar ters and minutes. Besides, it shows the days of tho week, months, seasons and tho years up to 10,000. It shows tho solar system, tho phases of the moon, the revolution of tho earth and the zodiac; then on seventeen clock faces the time at Berlin, Prague, Riga, Vienna, Cairo (Egypt), Hills, Trieste, Rome, Munich, Berne, Now York, Genera, Boston, Paris, Meta, London, and in the center, on the principal face, the time of tho place where the clook is located. .The arrangement of the clock Is the ■jAdlowing: Below in the center there is, ’.©dor gloss and quite open to view, the principal movement, which, when wound, will run for a year, supposing that tho clock is not moved. At the right of tho movement there is the work of the A. calendarium, at the left a music box, and -in the front the globe of the earth, which receives its revolution by a very simple but ingenious mechanism. Above the movement is tho second and minute hand, hftcr the revolution of which an angel strfes a bell and indicates the ex piration© a minute, while the hands of • the seventeen fa,--i r vanco (jump) one minute. The ox; nation of a quarter is again indicated by uu angel's striking two bells. In the course of an hour tho ages of man are represented—at the end of tho first quarter a child appears, at the second a youth, ut the third a man, and at the fourth an old man. The hour is struck by Death, by whose.slde stands an angel, who winks Death to desist at the appear ance of the first threo figures, but sutlers hSu to striko the hour at the appearance of tliomld man. At tho left hand, half hcight"f the clock, there stand the twelve apostles, attd before them Christ. At the expiration of an hour tho twelve bow be fore Christ, who blesses them by raising his hands. At 0 o'clock, mornings and evenings, a sexton rings the bell, whilo threo monks step from their cell and go into tho church for prayer: as they go in choral music is played. At. 10 o'clock in the oveii’iig a night watchman enters upon his duty nnd blows his hom every hour until 2 o’clock in the morning; at 8 the cock crows, standing In a natural size at the left upper corner of the clock. .-..t 12 o’clock noon und night tho music box plays n piece, and at 12, night, the calendnry changes and the following week, day and date appear, and at the end of tho month, whether of thirty or thirty-one days, the ifhme of the next month will come up, and leap years nro ' not forgotten. At the left upper end near the cock is a representation of the ■oli - - - apparent course (revolution) of tho sun round tho earth, which changes accord ing to llio season, so that it appears larger or smaller. On tho other side nearest tho cuckoo is the course of tho moon, representing the different phases of that satellite. The globe of tho earth revolver, every twenty-four hours. On tho 21st of March, tho beginning of spring. tln> cuckoo, also represented of nature.! t logins its musical perform ance and continues until tho beginning of fall. Each season is represented symbol ical!?. March 81, spring appears os a maiden in company of n child with wreaths of flowers; Juno 21, the maiden carries a sheaf of wheat and the child a sickle; Sept. 21, both carry fruit, and Dec. 21, tho maiden has a spinning wheel and tho child a spinning whirl (spindle). On Dec. 23, a lovely Christmas picture is represented in tlio chnpol nnd tlid musio box plays 'an appropriate tune. On Dec. 81, at 13 o’clock at night, tho trumpeter plays a solo, accompanied by the or chestra, to indicate tlio beginning of tho new year and at tlio same time tlio num ber of tho year changes. Tho run of this clock, as wo havo de scribed it, would repeat itself up to tho year 10,000, und might then bo prolonged for another 10,000 years, if the numbers were changed. 'Of course this is illusory, but it shows that such a work might bo created. The clock would havo to stand in tlio same place for 10,000 years and bo wound regularly every year. And the tooth of timo and the 'natural decay of everything earthly must be stopped— which is not very likely.—Wnterbury (Conn.) American. For The NERVOUS The DEBILITATED The AGED.
