It is hardly of less Interest, or of less historic or scientific value, to noto how the stono age still survives among us to no little extent. • Here In Virginia, for instance, many neoplo still scald their slaughtered bogs i hogsheads or barrels, as our Kirimrian j stones and water until It la pose. The stone pipe, believed by mouy to have gono out with the Indian, is. made and used today by many colored folks and by no few white folks. Whenever soap stone, or steatite, is fourid, not only the stone pipe, but many other artides sup posed to bo archaic, are still manufac tured and put to servico by the ingenious and thrifty. In such localities stone pans, stone troughs for children, etc., are still common. Some duy they will bo dug up and attributed to tlio Indians, or even to their predecessors. A little in quiry and investigation would show much fnoreof the stone ago still here than we have adverted to. Tho Multitude of Millionaire*. * Sinco tlie civil war millionaires (the wqrd means not thoso having a million, but thoso reckoning their wealth by mill ions) have steadily multiplied. Many men who wero content to earn u decent livelihood, who had never dreamed of aught beyond a modest competenco when Sumter was fired on, now count their incomo by hundreds of thousands. To % be a millionaire is to bo conspicuous or dinarily, but in New York there are millionaires wholly obscure. They are not known to bo rich outside of their narrow social circle, and will not be until tneir obituary in tho daily news papers shall havo mentioned the fact. There aro bo many and so excellent op portunities hero for making money, to him who lias pecuniary perception, that millionaires seem to. spring up between showers.
