The business, outlook for Bruns
wick nevbr was brighter. Keep the
ball in motion, and more away all
impediments. For the first time in
our history we are in,a position to
•move ahead as we should. Let all
hands put shoulders to the wheel,
forget our little petty grievances, and
move the car of prosperity straight
up thehilL Concert of action will
do the work. Take out the balky
horses, and carry them back to the
stables and put them on short ra

them in the coming season of “up

Last night a large congregation
assembled at the Methodist chnrch
to engage in the Song. Service an

of Mr. E. Brobstoii.aml Secretary W.

Though not accustomed to public
speech, with much force and impres

more thoughtful and more elegantly
expressed speech on such a subject.
Mr. W. D. Balch spoke of. the ex

Col. Lester.
Col. Bufns E. Lester, of Savannah,
Democratic nominee for Congress,
addressed the citizens of Glynn last
Saturday night at L’arioso Hall.—
To-morrow we will elect him to the
high position of Congressman of the
First Congressional District Geor

hence he will go untrammeled, and

should not he? '

To-morrow is a' most important
day in the politics Qf this land. Let
us see to it that Glynn county gives
the Democracy a fall vote. Don’t
stay away from the polls because you

swell the number. Col. *Lester, too,

Open all Winter.
Mr. W. R. Bunkley informs us that
he will keep his Cumberland Island
Hotel open, all winter. There is no
reason why he should not keep it
comfortably full the entiro winter
with northern visitors. Brunswick
will be fall to overflowing, and if
Cumberland is open to the public
scores' will go there—especially such
as are fond of hunting, fishing, etc.
Reminiscences.
We began lhst week the publica
tion of reminiscences of the city
of Brunswick, and will continue the
same from week to week. This week’s
issues will contain articles on the
lives and incidents of old citizens
and an article on tho Slaver Wander
er that came into this port before the
war.
Tho State Fair.
The city of Macon is wide awake
to-d&y receiving her guest and get
ting in motion tho grand exhibits of
this week. The whole St&te
will be there this week, from the sea
board to the mountains. Fare from
Brunswick to this great exhibit is
$3.50 for round trip and 50c. admis

ban rent, either with or blthoht board
as a home for some of the strangers,
that we feel sure will knock at onr
doors this winter. 4
Whether the hotels are full
there are always numbers of people'
who prefer private board, or who do
not care to pay fall hotel rates, who
will gladly pay good round prices for*
pleasant quarters. St. Augustine,
Jacksonville; and every town in Flor
ida does it and derives a big revenue
therefrom, and even at Thomasviilej
in,our own State, it is the practice
evfi'^y winter, and almost every house,
even among the wealthy apd influen
tial, has from one to. six of these
strangers sojourning beneath its
roof. * .
Apart from pecuniary considera
tions, a feeling of hospitality, and
the desire to help our town, onr peo
pie and ourselves individually should
prompt to this action.
This may soun^ to many ..like idle
talk, hut we ore in earnest. Wo hon
estly believe that our city, will be
full to overflowing, and we make'thq
prediction and urge our people to the
above action in good faith.

Such is the pleasant ending of, a
case that came up for settlement last:
week. A section boss struck a nb-
gro laborer of another eeotion gang
over the'head with a shovel. The
mother of the bpy came to town,
swore outja warrant against the boss,
charging him with f'assault with in
tent to nfurder.” The man was ar
raigned before Judge Lambright, bat
no one offered any proof of the “mur
der” part; Tho boy himself sa\d he
didn’t think the man wanted to kill
him, because he could have - done so
when ho had him down, and fho
mother said that the blood scared
her so badly that she thought he
would surely die. So Judge L. could
only send him up for.assault and bat
tery. He went at once'before Judge
Crovattan<j plead guilty and the
Judge put on a light fine which so
pleased the boss that be hunted up
the darkey forthwith andApld him
he would pay the doctor’s bill, and
now all hands are satisfied once more.
