to hear tho burden of their petition:

A eejrrapn specially to that element of
our people. He dwelt wijth empha
sis on the importance of having the
foundation sbllij, upon . which - to
erect thp s^peratrncture of life.
Dndes and dudelets got no comfort
from his burning words. Every
young man in this city should. have
heprd that sermon. It was full of
good advice.
Mistaken Identity.
A dear, good old lady of this city
walked into Lissuer’s store last week
in company with her daughter. As
Bhe passed in the door she saw what
she supposed to bo a lady of her ac
quaintance standing near the door.
Excusing herself from her daughter
she hurried back to “speak to a
friend.” Imagine her surprise when
her friend proved to be her own re
flection in a looking glass—no doubt
the face did look familiar. That
daughter had to tell ( the joke when
she got home, and the husband of
that good lady still teases her about
“meeting a friend.”

Mr. Inman one of the great Bich-
mop^lTermthal men, hatifbeen inter
viewed. He says: i ' ;i ' ;
We propose to make Savannah by
far the most important of all sonth
ern seaports. To do this it will, of
course, be necessary to take away a
great part of the business which now
joes to Norfclk, and, ns I will show
ater, this the milk of the coconut of
opposition%hich has been brought
to bear to negative the transaction
by which the consolidation is effect
ed. Instead of making Norfolk our
coast distributing point wo will turn
our commerce southward and deliv
er it at Brunswick and Savannah
each of which ports will he vastly
benefited.

Such is the advice given the ladies
by Kaiser & Bros., touching their big
sale to morrow 1 which is ono of their
famous bargain days. Kaiser Bros,
can convert their store into a regular
bee hive by advertising “special bar
gains,” for tho ladies know when
they say bargains, they mean bar
gains.
• The President Elect.
May we not hope that the Sunday
laws of these United States will be
the better enforced after March 4thj?
Tho newly elected President, Mr.
Harrison, does not go to the post of
fice on the Sabbath, nor have his
mkil taken therefrom. He attends
the Presbyterian church regularly
every Sunday.

triots show a dimunition.

An immense business will be turn
to Savannah and Brunswick, and
of course wo will have to make im
provements in both these places com

The Town Full of Them.
“How is real estate to-day, Mr.
Hopkins—any purchasers?”
“The town is full of them to da}-,
and they have got the rocks to buy
with, but so far I have not had a
chance to talk property to any of
them. I have been so busy this
morning on something else. They
are here though, and we will be with
them now pretty soon.”
That foreign claim of a torpedo
vessel that cai^run for^hours under
water is not a sound on.e, asserts the
Cincinnati Enquirer. It is simply a
reproduction of fi late American ex
periment in tire boat called the
“Peacemaker.” The scheme will
never be a complete success until a
motor is discovered that needs no
firo and makes no smoke. Compress
ed air was used by the Peacemaker,
but so little of that can be carried
that the campaign must be very
brief. Perhaps Some day some one
will be able to so store electricity as
to solve the problem.
