Augusta, Ga., Dec. 22—At the re cent exposition here an exhibit of machinery by the AomeUanufactur ing Company of Wilmington fift* mak ing bagging from pine straw Was viewed by thousands. Tho planters hailed It as a means of escape from the jute trust, which has borne So heavily on them during the past year. This too, it .now seems, ia to be con? trolled by a number of capitalists who met together in Hew York last week and pnrbhased the entire out* {it and rights of the Acme people, and propose to erect mllis throughout the Sonth for the production of bagging for pine straw. ® . ./ The larger number of these will be in Georgia, where the long leBf pine is found in the greatest proifosion Several wealthy'Georgians are in the ' deal. Ho figures are givdn for the transaction, but they are said to have been large in order to induce the Acme people to sell out The headquarters of the company wtlrbe either in Chattanooga or Birming ham, wbere the machinery will be manufactured. Augusta, itis under stood, is to have one of fhe mills. The sale has been made positively, but the identity of the parties to the transaction is as yet withheld. It may be that instead of one bagging trust the south is now to have two. There is much speculation here as to the same hand being at work in both. The company propose to begin work early in the new year and more facts will come out then. The boys have “caught oh” to the fact that Bostwick Bros., fireworks do not burst in the hand, do not re -... quire shaking, and are the ,beBt at Therefore coine early ' ahd don’t get left on your crackers and candles. You Can Travel on Yonr'Trnnk. ! Indianapolis Jout mil. “Do you know that if a man has a heavy trunk he can sometimes travel a long distance on a railroad with out a ticket or money V” said a young man yesterday, who had* recently made hid way back from Texas with but^a few dollars. “When I reached St. Louis I had but five cents in my pocket, and I did not know a man I could ask for a loan. I went to the ticket agent, and making known my condition asked him how I could get to Indianapolis. ‘Have you a trunk ?’ he asked. I told him I had, and he said he would introduce me me to the conductor. When the con : ductor came up I was introduced and ‘he asked me for my oheck to my trunk, which I gave him, and he then gave me a smaller ticket, which he said would .get my trunk in Indian apolis. I' asked him how much the trunk would cost me when I went to get it out, and he said $7. Well, I got through all right, and when I presented the ticket for. the trunk it cost me $9, ftstead of $7. I have been wondering ever since who got the money, but I didn’t care, for I was glad to get back to Indianapolis, even on those terms.” Raisins, currants and citron at Gloganer’s.
