A petition from' J. £. duBignon, asking permission to lay a side track from the main track of the Brunswick and Western railroad, on Bay street, beginning at. the south side of George street, and running from there to his wharf, was read, received and granted, , The report of the managers of the t election, held on the 8th day of De- " c '^Cmb«rl8885Tor a -mayor" and taxes from aldermen for the year 1889, declaring M. J. Colson elected mayor, and C. L. Parker, T. O’Connor, Jr., J. M. Madden and M. Ullman elected aldermen, wa9 received and adopted. The Port Physician’s report for the month of October, was received and ordered filed. The Harbor Master and Alnrshal’s reports for the month of December was received and ordered filed. The Clerk and Treasurer’s report for the month of December was re ceived and ordered published. The CWk and Treasurer spbmit- ted his annual report, which was re ceived and ordered published. Bolling Whitfield, Esq., city attor- 1*33', and O. W. Tucker, city physi cian, submitted their reports for the year 1888, which was received and ordered filed. To the Hon. Mayor and Council, CUy of Brunswick. Gentlemen: I have the honor of presenting this, my annual report of of Are department for 1888. Fire engine, W. R. K'ine, was first in order, and all apparatus pertain ing to same. Also horses in 'first class order. • One hand engine and jumper, with 400 feet of rubber hose in ordinary condition. Also Defiance Hose Reel, with 750 feet of linen hose in Hut class order, and all apparatus ^ ruining to same in good order. Also Protection Horn 1 Reel, with 550 feet of linen hvi-v, and nil appar atus pertaining to same in first class order. Also one Hook and Ladder Truck, in good order, except one ladder and one hook pole needing repairs. Also one Jumper Reel, with 000 of linen hose, in first class order. I have also, outside of the firo de partment, fire head of mules, harness, and five carts, and one or two horse wagons, in good order. Recounts proved by the finance committee were ordered paid. Bill of James Gallagher for fifty cents was ordered paid. Bill of T. G. Stacy & Son for $500 was ordered paid on delivery. Bills of Moore & Valentino for $27.50, and N. C. Greer & Son for $8 funeral expenses of Air. Fish, were ordered paid. The Health Officer was instructed io provide a fumigation station, for the purpose of fumigating goods from infected places, coming into this city. E. A. Read, Tax Collector, asking instructions upon the matter, of. the collection of Total number linen hose “ “ rubber 2,400 ft. 400 ft. 2,800 0. and in answer to same, the following resolution was then adopted: Be it Resolved, By the Comthission- ers of Ronds and Revenue of Glyim county, Ga., that H. J. Read, Tax Collector, be instructed to collect from the Ogjethorpe Hotel Co , the special tax levied for county court purposes, und the further special tax levied for school purposes, and the county tax, less the improvements; the said improvements to mean and consist of only the buildings owned by said company, as per resolution passed August 3, 1886. Upon motiqp the names of Lucy Jackson and Timber Gilbert were ordered placed upon the charity list for 1889. Communication from A. G. Piper tendering his resignation as Road •Commissioner for the 27th district was read, accepted, and B. L. Lewis appointed to the position. The following resolutions was then read and adopted. Resolved, That on and after this day all election managers, and clerks of elections lie paid at the rate of $3 per day each. Resolved, By the Board of Commis sioners of Roads and Revenues of Glynn county, Ga., that Symmes & Bennett, a law firm composed of C. Symmes and J. W. Bennett, be and are hereby employed and retained as counsel for said county for the year 1889, to do all its legal business, and that they do receive a salary of $150 for advice, both oral and written when given to this boatd, or the of ficers under its control; that for all other matters they shall receive a fair fee, and in the event they and this board cannot agree on the amount of such other fees, it shall be submitted to.arbitration. The clerk of Board was instructed to have printed a blank book of coun ty orders, that there might be some uniformity aud system in ordering goods for county use. Clerk of Board was instruced to write to J. W. Preston, of Davenport, Iowa, in relation to payment upon Judgment held by him against tho county. All hills approved were ordered paid. The Americus excursionists left this morning for home, with pleasing recollections of Brunswick and her people. Ttoe visit fo the compress yesterday was an eye-dpener, not only to them, but to Brunswickians, who were present. Ililton & Dodge Lumber Co. clear ed, on 29th ult., for Rio, Norwegian bark Falka, with 494,190 feet lum her, valued at 6,424. Downing <& Co. cleared, on 29th ult., for Rotterdam, tho bark Deodo ra, with 3,085 barrels rosin, valued at $4075. Downing cleared, on 29th ult., for Hamburg, the British bark Devon, with 1135 barrels rosin, value $2,009, and 950 casks spirits turpen tine, valued at $21,900. W. E. Roberts cleared, on 29th, for Abaco, British schooner -Pajora, with general cargo valued at $208. Coles, Simkins <fc Co. cleared, on 31st ult., for Bremen, the British steamship Bedford, with 2,744 bales of cotton, valued at $120,000; also by Brunswick Stowage and Export Co. 2,899 bales, valued at $130,455. F. D. Aikin cleared, on 2d inst., for Harbor Islnnd, the British schooner Edwin Janet, with merchandise, val ued at $256. Wednesday’s Election was one of the quiotest ever soen in Brunswick. There being no opposi tion the regular nominees were elected. Only 287 votes were polled, and the personcl of the officers re mains the 'same as last year. They areas follows: Sheriff, W. H. Berrie; Treasurer, John P. Lamb; Clerk of Supreme Court, J. L. Beach; Ordi nary, E. C. P. Dart; Tax Receiver, T. B. Goodbrcad; Collector, H. J. Read; Surveyor, E. A. Penniman and Coroner, L. B.
