Superintendent George W. Haines,
of the Brunswick and Western rail

Died last night near midnight,
Mrs. H. P. Gray, of this city, of con
jestion of the brain. She has been
yi for about a week. She leaves
husband and daughter to mourn her
death.
Mr. J. J. Griffin, of the East Ten
nessee, Virginia and Georgia, is on
hand to-day looking after freights.
Well, we don’t know any part of the
road that - needs looking after more
than from here to Jcsup. More
engines are needed in the yard
here, and shall wo say it?—
a little neater car to run between
Brunswick and Jcsup in connection
with the Florida train, and while we
are at it, we might ns well clean
breast of it, and suggest that a wait
ing room at the city of Jcsup would
call forth the “well done” plaudits
of a whole nation of people. But Mr.
Grillin does not control in these lat-
tor things, else we know he would fix
them at once.

On last Saturday night, the 29th
ult., everybody, old and young, as
sembled at Oak Hall to see the
Christmas tree. The arrangements
were under the management of our
worthy minister, D. Watson,Wynne,
largely assisted by his excellent wife.
The children and minister met at the
church, and after the singing of the
Christmas carols, they marched to
the hall under a perfect shower of
fireworks. When quiet was restored,
Old Santa Claus knocked nt the
door, and was admitted, and the dis
tribution of gifts began, and 1 don’t
think a single person present went
away empty handed or dissatisfied.
The children had their arms full of
toys and beautiful gifts and their
little stomachs full offruits and c'an-
dy.
Last night the church bell sound
