Farm and Home. Maxims for the Fanners. 1. Never get in debt when you canno see your way out again. When you owe pay as fast as you can and promptly Never allow yourself to be dunned for a ‘debt a second time without paying it* for pramptness is of ge&t advan tage in any kind of buinesa and all t* rough -life. 2. Never enlarge your farm when half of what you own is not half cultivated. 3. If you own more land than you can till well, are in debt, or need funds to make necessary improvements, sell part of your farm and use the money to pay debts and make your improve ments. 4. Never borrow money to build a ■howy house when a less pretentious one would answer and never lend mon ey when you land to improve. it 5. Lay ouhfl^uj^nf for your farm an?R@i|jrTaings, and as your means improve, earrPthese.plans 6. Do not enter upon speculation with other people’s money, or your own, un less you see clearly that you will make profits, and even then do not do it to the neglect of your farming, 7. Do not keep poor stock when you can keep good stock at the samo expense and with much more piofit. 8. Do not try to g’*ow c ops for which our farm is well adapted. 9. One wid answer. “T 1 esc who are irri uible or wontlv unkind/. Another, “Those who aa jealous ad suspicious.” S <ll another, “ih se who are BOjhopelessl v one ge<ic in woids and action as to render repose impossible i:; tlieir vicinty.” few will suv, “Those who are vinous,” for it is t ue that l iioso qualities which come mid or the head o' foibles rather than of vices tender' people most intolerable as companions and coad jutors. For example, it may l e observed tliat those pe son.s have a more worn jaded and dispi !el look than any oJrers, wno have to live with people who make difficulties on every occasion great or small. Jt is astonishing is see how this practice of making difficult es grow ns in to a confirmed liapit of m nd, and wha disheartenment it occasions. r l he savo* of life is taken out of it when you know that nothing you propose to do or sug gest, hope for or endeavor, will inset wi fi any response but an enumeration of the difficulties that will lie in the path you wish to travel.
