Mew Store. Mr. Gulley has purchased all lum ber sufficient to build his new. store, and is going to commence work at once. He says he thinks it Will be complete in 40 days. This new store will be quite an improvement to the village, and Wc hope others will do likewise. y m '• ' —' Lecture. fi§ ro f. John S. His eyes wee rather bad, being blind in one and seeing dimly out of the other, gave him some trouble. The article in another column con cerning the local notice we gave of the , Iron Works, is interrogative in its na ture,and the vriter calls us out in the com munication to explain, and we are frank to confess that we are wholly unacquain ted with th* modus operandi of the en terprise, and we are therefore unable to snv anythimf'on the subject more than we have said, from time to time. But will say those interested have the ikierty to explain the matter through the columns of this paper. We persist in saying that we don’t know anything CQioparatixely, about the management of these fiunices. Let some one who is conversant with the matter come to the front. T 1 Mar? The way to cure one of these chaps is to get | him to agree to write a sensible article | everv day for a week. Before the week is out he is sure to be pumped dry, and will gape wo so for an idea than a chick en does with the pip. Personal Mention. The editor, J. A. I)arr, made a busi ness trip to Gadsden this week. Mr. L. S.Golyar, left Bun lay for Nashville. Mr. W. B* Amos made a flying visi’ to Fort Payne this week. Miss Clemmie Jacoway, of Trenton, is visiting relatives in Gadsdei, Ala. Miss Mol lie Allison, of 1 r nton, was in to see us last Week. Mr. J. T. Park, operator and depot agent at this place, is visiting his parents near Chattanooga. Maj. Nisbet, of CloVerdale, returned Tuesday from a visit of two weeks at Meridian. Miss Annie Wingfield, Miss Bell Bailey and Miss Fannie Nisbet, of Clo verdalc, made us a pleasant call Satnr- Miss Nannie Allen, who has been vis iting relatives at Trenton, passed down the road Monday, on her way home, at Allen’s Spring-. Miss Sallie Allen passed through the village Sunday on her way to Trenton, where she will again take charge of the music department in the District High School at that place. Mr. J. J. Nix, formerly of DeKalb county, Ala.,has moved his place of bus iness to Sulphur Springs, Ga., and since lie has become a goober-grabber, he looks ten per cent, better* Prof. Jno S. Gibson, of Virginia,is in town, making up a school. From what we know and haY r e seen of the Professor, we think we could do no better than to employ him, and think that all the peo ple ought to put their children in school. BREVITIES. New store. - . Beautiful moonlight nights, but front gfcte don’t suffer. Hide not your faults with a lie; it is far more noble to confess them. “Mortgage” is the Latin for “Death Grip.” The water courses in this vicinity ha ve a “flush hand” now. We ha\ r e a column of interesting mat ter on the fourth bage. Can’t some of our subscribers who owe us for the paper bring us a load of pine. The people of this valley must pay for the paper, can’t wait longer. M . John Long of this county is, we are glad to say, slowly improving. We are glad to learn that Mr. Ed Forester is recovering. Married —John F. Holder to Margaret Sells, by G. M. Crabtree. Mr., and Mrs. Allison made aVransfer of some laud to their children last week. No church Sunday; so mnddy and cold the people of the village could not get out. Rev. J. A. Darr preached at Trenton Sunday. Avery good congregation was in attendance.
