The Farmers treed
£ Wc believe in .small farms and thor
ough cultivation.
That the soil loves to eat as well ns
the owner, and ought, therefore to he
manured.
( Ingoing to the bottom of things, and
1 therefore in deep [slowing and enough
lof it All the better if it be a subsoil
plow.
in large crops, which leave land better
than they found it making both the
farm and farmer richer at once.
That every farm should own a good
fanner.
That the fertilizer of any soil is a
spirit of industry, enterprise and intel
ligence—without these, lime, gypsum
and guano will be of little use.
In wood fences, good farm-houses,
good orchards and children enough to
gather the fruit.
In a clean kitchen, a neat wife in it, a
clean cupboard, a clean # dairy and clear
conscience,
That to ask a man’s advice is not
stooping, hut of much benefit.
1 hat to keep a place and everything
in its place saves many a step and is
pretty sine to lead to good tools and to
keep them in order.
1 hat kindness to stock, like good
shelter, is a saving of fodder.
That it, is a good thing to keep an eye
on experiments, and note all—good and
had.
r \ hat it is a good rule to sell your
grain when it is ready.
That it is a good thing to grow into
farming, not jump into it.
That all of farming is summed up in
the manure hea p.
In enriching the soil according to its
wants. —Aashville American.
Spring Work on Use Farm.
I lie Rural World says: Ev rvfarmer
ought to be in readiness for spring work.
The horses ought to he in condition, the
harness, plows, harrows, etc., in good re
pair and ample arrangements made so
that it anything breaks men and teams
need not he stopped. We do not believe
in plowing until we are ready to sow or
plant the seed—-that is to say, we' would
not have the plowed ground lay a short
time before planting. A spell of wet
weather will pack the ground hard and
myriads of weeds will get ready to start
before the seed is sown, and choke the
plants you wish to grow. Our advice,
then, is to clean up eWfy field, put up
the fences, get all the work done you can
and a few days before planting put flic
teams to work, in good earlvest, plowing.
Harrow as soon as done plowing, and
then put in the seed, if you have good
weather your seed will go in the ground
in good order, get the start of the weeds
and with good cultivation you will have
a good crop. Farmers should not plant
more than they can cultivate well. II
they have too much land under the plow,
they should seed it to clover and the
grasses. Make good pastures and mead
ows. They pay better than most crop .

We have seen a good many farmers the
last week and'conversed with them about
their crops. We learn the wheat crop is
not damaged near so badly as was at
first anticipated. It looks very well. Oofs
were badly damaged by the long freeze.
The farmers are progressing very well
with preparations for planting. A great
