Farm and Home. Acquiring A Sod. Yc oft£n look \vith surprise at the te of time and money many people mit to acquiring a sod for a lawn, or Int of it, or for a yard, in buying some sod, containing many weeds hard to Isi rid of, haulihg it and thus employing 1 and carts to sec tin* even enough for I nail space, when a much better sod r 'be obtained from sowing grass seed on Hand prepared the same as if intended *a gaiden crop. Lately we had occasion t. jod a space left in our lawn by there /al of four large trees of the Norway face variety. The ground was very few les in depth in preparing it, and was | ly in poor condition for the purpose; in'de no manure was applied. About >h pound of mixed “lawn grass seed” ii sown, and a garden-roller passed tin* it. This was about the 20th ol nl. About the Ist of May the grass .dc its appearance; bv the 28th the ii. * 1 lund was covered, and by the 3d ol |i;e it was clipped, and by the 12tb , e>pcd a second time. Thus in six weeks jihad anew sod, fresh and vigorous, aot weeds, and much superior to the psod adjacent. But it would he better l could the ground have been prepared it should have been. The excuse of I'ding this space, buying cutting, oiling and putting down and watering fuld not have been less than fifteen sllars; while the expense of seeding and aing as nothing else was done to it, was "■jut one dollar and twenty-five cents . told. lt ind Your Own ISicsines*. There are a thousand all leaks about the nianag: meat of an . i . ° linary larm, that, if not closely at |ided to, will surely bring the most id-working farmer to ruin and bank a )tcy.
