We are sorry to announce the death of Mr. William Jenkins, which occurred at his home near Trenton, Wednesday the 10 i:st. MuTier aud Sutton to attend the closing exeicises of the Chattanooga District High School at Trenton, hut cannot be present. Mr. J. M. Sutton, the energetic pas senger agent of the Memphis and Char leston Railroad passed up the A. G. S. R. It. last Monday evening, with a lot of 40 emigrants for Arkadolphia Ark. They were all going over the M. A (’. —good for you Jim, also lor A. B. Hall VYe are pained to chronicle the death of Mr. Rich Blevins, which occured at his home in Deer Head Core, last week. Mr. Blevins was one of the oldest citi zen* ofthat county, and was foe a long time a Primitive Babtist preacher. We send out this week, for the ben*- fit of our advertsers, a large number of extra papers. We hope that those receiving the paper who do not now take it, will examine it closely and if they like it well enough subscribe at once. We intend to publish a lire,inter esting paper for 1880, and hope to double our subscription list during that year. The closing exercises ot the Rising Fawn Academy will take place Tues day night 23rd inst. The exeiei*s to consist Music—Vocal, instrumental, by hand. Speeches, readings recitation, tableaux, pantomimes, charades, dia logues Ac., free to all. The exercises will he repeated on Friday night, the 26th, w ith an admittance fee of 5 cents for children, and 10c. for adults, the pro ceeds to be applied to repairing the school house. Max Corput, who has been attending school at Sulphur Springs Ala bright ened our vicinity with a smile on Satur day and Sunday last. Max is a bright light in the household of his parents, and deserve* their praise. We consider his good habits an honor to the commu nity, and his example a% invaluable to nis friends. Little Poji Ed. Gazette —Melville is still on growing ground. Since I wrote you last arrangements have been made for the erection of several new building*; times are improving;—business much better than when I wrote last. The hog crop is now being gathered and marketed at 34 to 4 cents per pound. Sequatchie valley has broke loose and driving to Chattanooga, as they have to pass bv here, it is one coniinual whoa! whoa! Witil tho*© who io “hoging it’” this year. There are some preparations being made for Christmas. The young men in aud around our village, being full of i life and energy, contemplate having a lively Christmas. We have already had several sociables, candy stews Ac, but of course you know that is some thing I never did relish much. 1 could not stand more than five or six a week. I was glad to learn through the col J umns of the Gazette, that M. IS. M. was still in the land of the living—right side up with sare. From the lively and jovial manner in which he writes, 1 sup pose he is all right for a coon hunt at any time. We wish the Dr. all the success imaginable. Dr. let us hear from you often.
