• ill be seen elsewhere, M. B. B.
am, of Dade, announces himself a
candidate from this district to the Sen
ate of the next General Assembly.
Under the system of rotation adopted,
Dade is entitled to the nomination, and
she has given us a man who will be
thoroughly acceptable to all. Mr.
Tatum is well known in the district.
When the gallant 39th Georgia Regi
ncnt went, Brad was one of the boys.
For three years he earned a musket,
laying it down only at the surrender.
Since the war, he has served as clerk
of the Superior Court one or two terms;
filled acceptably the difficult position
of clerk of the House of Representa
tives in 1875 and 1876, and represent
ed Dade in.the same body in ’7B and
’79 He is thirty-eight years of age,
and if elected, will look closely after
the interestscf his section. —[Walker
County Messenger.
We call the attention of out readers
in this issue of the Courier to the an
nouncement of M. A. 11. Tatum, of
Dade county. Mr. Tatum is too well
and favorably known in this county to
need a word ot commendation from us.
He is comparatcly a young man—only
38 years of age. He served tlrrougl
the war as a private in the 39th Geor
gia regiment; has been clerk of tin
Superior Court of Dade one term;
represented that county in the Legis
lature well and faithfully during the
years of 1878-79, and received the
largest vote ever given for anyone in
the county for representative. There
will be no candidate from Walker or
Catoosa counties, it being Dade’s turn
to furnish the Senator. Mr. Tatum,
in our opinion, will not betray any
tiusis reposed in him, and, if elected,
the people cf the 44th district will
have a tiue and faithful Senator, —
Catoosa Courier.
It is possible that the duly conven
tion may not be unanimous for Mr
Stephens as its nominee for the Gover
norship. There are indications that
he is not acceptable to all tire Demo
crats of Georgia, however able lie may
be to command the necessary two thirds
or more to make him the candidate of
the party. There are those who and.
not believe there was any necessity for
dragging him, head and heels, into the
arena upon the borders of which their
friends had already set up the standards
of some half dozen or more of the
ablest and worthiest sons of Georgia.
It is not to he believed, then, that the
friends those gentlemen will go over in
a body to make the Stephens boom
unanimous.
It is not a sign of weakness or an
augury of defeat that party men should
differ honestly with respect to leaders
and candidates. Any expression of
dissent to the nomination of Mr.
Stephens is not proof of party disloyal
ty and should there he such dissent in
making the nomination, neither he nor
the public would fetl surprised. We
.confidently look to a harmonious con
vention, wise nominations, and tire
success <>f the ticket. It
