ONLY ONE PRODUCTION OF THE
“ROSE MAID.”
When Werba and Luescher produc
ed the big opera success, "The Rose
Maid," which is coming to the Grand
Saturday, matinee and evening, they
are said to have ignored oldfashioncd
comic opera convention, the same as
they did with "The Soring Maid."
The new work which will be present
ed this season under the sole direc
tion of Frank G. Payne, will be seen
here for a return engagement. "The
Rose Maid” is infested with an atmos
rphere of joyousness that starts at the
very rise of the first curtain and con
tinues through the entire action of
the I iece. The story opens with a
gay house party In Liberty Hall, the
vounk Duke of Harchester's London
House, and finishes among the bril
liant gatherings always found at Bel
gium's most popular Casino Ostens.
In the latter scene, the state Is
crowded with the happy roisterers.
wT.ose doings have made Ostend one
of the most fascinating resorts in
Burope. There is a gorgeous coloring
to this scene in which the very dis
play of stylish kowns caused the ope
ra to be called the "opera of Tun and
fashion.” "The Rose Maid” was the
best liked of all operas in New York
since “The Spring Maid,” and will lie
presented here witli the same elab
orate production and extravagant de
tail that made it the vogue on Broad
way last season. There is only one
"Rose Maid” company in tour, so that
local theatergoers inav he certain of
seeing the best production possible
in tills city. Seats on sale Thursday
