Hoke Smith Has Federal Motion Picture Measure Washington.—A federal motion pic ture commission under Jurisdiction of the bureau of education was proposed in a bill today by Senator Hoke Smith. Three members appointed by the pres ident would license each film for ex hibition unless it is ‘‘obscene, indecent, immoral or depicts a bull fight or prizo fight, or is of such character that its exhibition would tend to corrupt the morals of children or adults, or incite to crime.” JAS. President Refuses to Confirm Awards of Jury Washington.—On the ground that the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad would receive $200,000 more than it deserved for its property near the un ion station here, President Wilson to day refused to approve awards made by a condemnation Jury for acquisition of land between the capitol and the Union Station to be used for a plaza. The president acted on the recom mendation of a special investigator, who reported thaf the Baltimore and Ohio, which owned most of the prop erty condemned would get an exces sive figure. New- legislation by con gress must precede new awards. GERMAN OFFICIAL BOYCOTT OF AMERICAN BUSINESS Berlin.—An instance of the official boycott of American business enter prises in Germany is reported today from Sonnenburg. The Pure Oil Company of Hs.mburg, an American concern operating under a German charter, applied to the ad ministration of prisons there for the contract to supply them with oil. The government officials replied that the institutions were not permitted to buy from a non-German firm. The com pany protested that he concern was a German one. C.—With a big golf tour nament on the interest in polo seems to have subsided a little. In the pre liminary round handicap match play for the Iselan cup, which began Mon day, there were forty-six entries, among them being the most prominent tourists. Quite a few have come from the winter resorts in Florida sinco the weather has become normal again and will spend a while here before return ing home. The Aiken polo team goes to Camden on Friday and Saturday to play for the southern circuit cups. The team is composed of Brown, Paul, M. C. Flenschman and K. W. Hopping and will prove a very formidable foe fur the camden team. A match was played on the Whitney field Monday afternoon between the Tigers and Aiken, the former winning by seven goals to six. The line-up was as follows: Martin, Wilson, Brown, j. Fleischman; Tigers: T’ost, TO. W. Hopping, M. C. Fleischman, W. Phelps. On Tuesday night, Mr. Geo.
