Washington.— Kdward Boyle, of Chi
engo, testllled to the senate lobby
committee today that while no spe
cific fund had been raised among
prison labor contractors for the le
leat of the Hughes bill to regulate
shipments of prison i rodnets, he nad
appeared before congressional com
mittee as the legal representative of
contractors opposed to the measure
and had been paid under an agree
ment by which various contractors
ci ntributed
Boyle testified he had been paid to
oppose anti-contract labor legislation
I v offielais of the Paramount Knit
ting Company, having shops in Illi
nois and Wineonstn He had no
knowledge of the arrangement oy
which other firms contributed to ills
pay. He had been appearing before
congressional committee In opposi
tion to such legislation since 1903,
lie said.
Tlic lobby committee Is investigat
ing the charge that a $50,000 fund
was raised to defeat the measure.
Boyle was treasurer for three suc
cessive years of the National Confer
ence of Charities and Corrections.
