Mrs. Nance’s Death was
Shock to Home Town
The citizens of Monroe, particular
ly those numbered among her rela
tives and close friends, were shocked
yeatorda morning when the news
flashed over the wire, announcing the
death of Mrs. Ralph Nance, formerly
Miss Lucile law re nee, of Monroe, in
her adopted home, Augusta.
Mrs Nance was the daughter of
Judge J. O. Lawrence, of this city.
October, three years ago, she was mar
ried to Mr, Nance, of Augusta, a young
nian prominent In the social and busi
ness life or his home town and, since
that tinu> she lias been making her
home In/Augusta.
Mrs Nance, ns Miss 1-awrence, was
one ! the most excellent young la
dies that evpr lived here. She was the
highest type of Christian womanhood
and, as a girl and young lady, she had
the esteem of our epttre people because
of tier gentle manner and sweet dis
position. She was a member of the
First Daptfst church here and, as
smich. net er brought reproach upon
thechurch or the cause for which It
stands. She, it will he remembered,
was the sister of the late Thomas H.
1-awrenoe and the beautiful devotion
that existed between them, one for the
other, was the subject for highest
commendation and praise.
Mrs. Nance had not been ill very
long and only violent Just a short time
prior to tier death. In fact, her death
was almost sudden and. oh such a
shock to htn who was so constant and
untiring in his devotions to her! Re
fore the end came, she was surrounded
by her father and step-mother, for
whom she had a great fondness, her
husband and his family and a few

close friends, all of whom stroked her
brow and tenderly administered to her
until she slipped away.
Immediately following the close of
this dear young life—as soon as the
pure whote spirit had joined the ran
somed legions—the body beautifully
robed, was laid in a a beautiful white
casket, and, today at high noon, ac
companied Ivy those who were with her
in the last hour, reached the city over
the Georgia railroad from Augusta ami
was taken to the I-nwrence home on
Spring street where, at 2 o'clock this
afternoon, the funeral obsequies, so
fittingly ond Impressively conducted
by Dr D. W. Key, of the First Haptist
church, took place. After the funeral
the remains vver borne most tenderly
to the city cemetery and there left un
derneath a mound of exquisite and
fragrant flowers, to remain until the
resurrection of the dead.
The floral offerings, furnished by
friends and relatives of the deceased
in Monroe and those which came from
Augusta, were profuse and beautiful
indeed and, in voiceless eloquence, bore
testimony to the beauty and splendor
of the life just closed to re-open in the
likeness of its origin in the upper and
better kingdom.
