ACADEMY DRUBS
2ND CEEMSON
Victors By Score of 14 to 4.
Numerous Clemson Errors
Cause of Academy Getting
Majority of Runs.
The Academy of Richmond County
yesterday defeated the second team
of Clemson College, In a nlne-Innlng
game at Warren Bark by the score ot
14 to 4.
The real cause of the local boys
getting so many runs was the num
erous errors that were made by th»
Carolinians.
The batteries Tor this game wort, as
follows: Clemson, Rhett ns the
catcher and Uee as pitcher, aee was
substituted by Fowell In the sevntn
inning. Academy, catcher Rupert,
and i’hllpot as the twirier. Phllpot
made a wonderful showing and was
backed up by some excellent fielding
The feature of the game was eenter
fielder Livingston, when he made a
running catch of a fly that*lf missed,
would certainly have brought In the
three men that were on the bases,
ar.d by the way, this retired the side
Some excellent form was shown by
both sides In spite of numerous errors
that were mane, and It can be said
that the Clemson boys are certainly
hard fighters.
Those bo>B were game to the last
and even after the contest was over
had enough courage left to muster a
“college yell."
The form that the Academy showed
is a compliment in itself for the hard
work that Coach Wlenges went
through in the training of the team.
The official score by Innings is as
follows:
Clemson 120 OrtO 001— 4
Academy 030 036 20x —-14

that title from their father, for It w*.**
not. although there were a few who

Everyone quit playing golf In the nf f *

on and. of course, everyone hat! to se**
It. Boßie of those who witnessed tne
game wli\t'i| in ny times that they were
back at home, for the feature of the
game was foul balls, which persisted «n
keeping the spectators dodging and
screaming.
The great game of baseball was pull
ed off on the NVh'tney polo field and
was called at 4:do o’clock sharp with
the umpire. Jarct Burckhalter, a native,
loudly screaming “play ball."
Qot Tired.
Every tiling went well with the tour
ist* until the eighth fnmng. and It 1*
supposed that they became tired then
and quit trying, for It doe* not take
them long to tire of anything, hut In tin*
fatal e ghth the Natives began running
around the bases like their opponent*
chase around the globe and before tin;
Tourist* could stop them, the score
stood 11 to 9 against them. However,
they managed to put two more around
the bases and the Native* did tin* same
thing making the score 13 to 11 In favor
of the Aikeidtcs.
In addition to foul balls the features
of the game for the Tourists might be
said to be the base-running of J C.
Cooley, the agility with which Alex
Brown handled the balls that went Into
left field, the hatting of Frances Ros*
ami on the other aide the catching of
<»eo. Croft, the man who could not play
without fussing, the easy way in which
Hheriff Howard tossed the bail to his
teammates and the playing of Lonnie
Oakley on short.
The Une-up was as follows:
Natives. Position. Tourists
Geo. Croft Nastlngs Tyler
Catcher.
