The remainder Is the regulation warehouse. They are now putting on the roof and tho building will soon be ready for use The Riverside Compress, situated near Hawks' Gully, and which wns destroyed by fire about a year ago, hns been rebuilt on a larger scale than It was before and with consider able Improvements for the better handling of cotton It Is now In full operation and the Influence that It exerts Is tending to Increase Augusta's cotton receipts. The Morgan Furniture Company will be open to the public about April 15. J, F. Bollinger building, corner of Uroad ami Kolloek, Is nearly ready for the roof nud will be a handsome addition to that portion of the street. It wnl be three stories In height and have two stores with flats above. Schneider's Department Store. On the opposite side of Broad, the western corner, the throe-story build ing now occupied by Matheny'a Drug Store and C. K Williams Co., has been bought by C. H. Schneider. On October Ist, the leave will expire and the building will be demolished and replaced by a thoroughly modern building suited to Schneiders big de partment. It will he five stories In height, forty feet front and running back one hundred anil thirty-seven feet. The design will be very hand some and altogether, It will prove an ornament to that portion of the city. There will be entrances on both sides and handsome plate glass windows along Kolloek Street as well as Broad. The building together with the lot will represent an Investment approx imately of SIIO,OOO. Mrs. Dr. .1. B. Morgan will erect a three-story building on the corner of Broad and McKinne, two stores In front and an apartment house In the rear, fronting on MoKlnne Stret. The corner store will he occupied by the King Drug Company and the other store with the lofts overhead has been leased to the Hightower Furni ture Company. Mrs George H. Howard haR pur chased the lot Number 1240 Broad Street and will build a two-story build ing with two stores. Southern Tire and Rubber Co. The Southern Tire and Rubber Co., are putting the roof on their factory building, it will be 210x75 feet ana will be equipped with the latest ltn proved machinery for manufacturing automobile tires. It will be the only automobile tire factory In the South, and they will manufacture a high grade of patented goods under a li cense, which they are now selling and which are made under contract. They have established an office and sales room on Juckson Street. The Kale Hotel Building, which will be a four-story affair, situated In front of ’the Union Station, will soon have the foundation completed. They have experienced consideralils delay from the bad weather and the water rising as the trenches were excavated But with this trouble ob viated. the work will probably prog ress rapidly from now on. The Trowbridge Hardware Com pany are building n large warehouse for the storage of their goods next to Murphy & Co.'s wfttehouse on Mcln tosh Street. This location was se lected for the purpose of affording track facilities for unloading ami shipping and Is most admirable for the uses for which It is Intended. The warehouse will be 119x148, two stories In height, rat-proof and fire proof. Tho roof is now being put on. Swift & Co.’s Big Plant. Another Mr cotton seel oil mill, fertilizer plant and coton seed pro ducts factory will be numbered among the list of Augusta's flourishing In dustries us quickly us the work ot construction can be accomplished. Swift & Co., the big Chicago con cern, have bought ten acres of land belonging to the Delalgle property on the belt line and already a spur truck has been built and the material is being delivered to begin the work ot construction, it is understood that tre price paid for the land was SI,OOO or SIO,OOO for the whole. Little Is known definitely as yet of the details or Swift As Co.'s plans, as the parties rim Chicago and Columbia, catne i r to select the site and they did rot do much talking. Hut this much is certain, Swift & Oa. have desired to occupy this territory Tor a num ber of years. They never do things by halves, hut their plants elsewhere are of brick and concrete and built 'n the most substantial manner. They will build a cotton seed mill and prob ably refining plant with It, n fertil izer p’ant, and a factory for making washing compound and other cotton seed products. The amount of the Investment involved Is placed at the minimum $250,000 at first, but will probably exceed that figure In the end. as they will build according to the requirements of the trade to gether with the capacity of the mar ket to furnish the raw material.
