"In two daya I got so nanny I almost

write hut many of the purents wrote,
Hm, asking me to pi ease put their boys
on the team. Many FYench mothers
and fathers of alckly children c»mi to
me and logged me to place them.
"I finally selected two teams and
started out to teach the kids the game.
Oee, that waa a Job. Their knowledge
of athletics extended to rolling whoopa.
Whenever I'd send one up to hat In
the early stages <4 their lessons, they’d
run to the bases on every occasion,
whether they hit the hall or not, ami
they wouldn't atop running until they’d
circled the hags Hometime# they'd try
to run around them again. They thought
running waa the Idggeat part of tho

Two Qood Teams
But after a time I got the hoy# whip

I kept them out In the open a Jot, and It
whs a treat to see how their normally
pale, sickly looking faces took on the
ruddy glow of health. Their parents
were delighted and singled Boon I w*i#
besieged with more applications.
"The parents of the children used to
come out and watch the games. They
grew Interested and spread the news to
their neighbors and friends I’retty soon
we had a big crowd at all our games,
an the Interest In the game grew as the
spectators began to master Its Intri

"Before I left France there were many
e» hoolhojr teams, and the adults were
taking such a lively

are playing the game pretty generally
throughout France Just now and I am
sure tliat In a year or tow we’ll he
hearing over on this side about a ‘sec

"The biggest difficulty for haaehall
players In France la the lack of suitable
grounds. The cities are fftetty well
built up, and the open aiens are mostly
forests Frenchmen do like their for
eats. many of them on the outskirts of
the big cities, and cling to them pretty
tightly. But In it year or two the base
ball erase will override the Frenchman's
love fitr his forests and they’ll be made
