Oscar Underwood’s election In the senate from Alaburna will not change the democratic house leadership before March 4. 1915. Mean time, Representative Kltchln of North Carolina has secured what he says are more than enough pledges to assure him the democratic leadership In suc cession to Mr Underwood and the chairmanship of the ways and means committee, If the democrats retain control of the house of the next con gress. The Alabama election marks the passing of Representative Hobson and the coming of Wm. 11. Bankhead In his place. Mr. Bankhead Is the son of Senator Bankhead and made the speech that placed Mr. Underwood Ilf nomination for the presidency at the Baltimore convention. It has been re ported ai the capital that If Mr. Hob son wore defeated In the present sen ntnrshlp contest he planned to enter the race for the senatorshlp against Senator Bankhead, whose term ex pires In 1919.
