James K. Sullivan, secretary of the
Amateur Athletic Union and the inun
who will have charge of the athletic end
of tile Panama Exposition next year.
"The way the entries are coming In
now Indicates that about 10,000 athletes
will take part in the different events,"
added Sullivan. "These men will bo
among the very best of their class In the
entire world. Practically every nation
of any sire will have men entered In
the different contests, and the meet in
Frisco will he second in Importance
only to tlie Olympic meet. It wouldn’t
surprise me If It would excel even the
last two Olympic meets in the size of
entries and record-breaking events.
"America, of course, will trot forth the
best athletes In the land. And so will
tlic foreign nations. The boys from
across the water certainly ought to do
even better than they did in 1912, and
In 1908, because they will huve had the

meet, ought to he a whirl-wind affair.
I haven't any Idea Just now as to the
number of men that will he entered
in ihi' event, tint It wouldn't surprise
me If It went far over 100. And those
fellows will lie among the very best
distance runners In the world.
