The opening session wns held at the city auditorium at o'clock tn the morning. the convention being called to order by C. T. Williamson, president of the Macon t'entral Gabor Union, who delivered the address of welcome on behalf of organized labor In Macon. Other addresses of wel come will be delivered by Mayor Hridges Smith, himself a union man. and W. I Thinwoody, president of the Macon Chamber of Commerce. K 11. Marks, president of the state federa tion, responded and then formally took charge of the convention. One of the features of the conven tion will he an address to be delivered by Thomas H. Felder, candidate for the United Slates senate, on Thursday evening. Jerome Jones, of Atlanta, will also speak at that time. The social features of the conven tion have not been overlooked. To night a grand ball will be given at the Volunteers' armory, beginning at H ; r.ll O'clock. At a joint session last night of tho Mantra ami I'hilathra unions uT tho city, hold at the North Augusta Bap tist Church, a resolution was unani mously adopted to ask all places of business that arc customarily open Sunday afternoon, where young men or wrung ladies arc employed, be clos ed between 3:30 and 6 o'clock on the afternoon oT May 24th. the day of the great mass meeting of the fifth an nual convention of the Georgia Baraca Association. Last Night's Program. The meeting Inst night was more of a social nature than otherwise. The following was the program: Welcome by pastor of North Au gusta Baptist Church. Business, roll call of classes and announcements Talk by Mr. Joe Melding on coming Baraca convention. Resolution by Mr. T C Quarles. Vocal solo by Miss Julia Osborne. Talk by Rev. Mr. Reaves of Sibley Mission Church. Vocal solo by Miss Myrtls Tlnley. Duet. Refreshments were served by the young Indies of the Hhtlathea Class of the North Augusta Baptist Sunday school. It was the first joint social session of the two Augusta unions held In North Augusta and proved, from every side, one of the most de lightful gatherings of tho unions. Sv Brand, chief promoter of the now cemetery proposed for Augusta, that he has | been allowed to lay off a plat of land he owns on The Hill and that soon Augusta's need for another burial ground will be satisfied. The new cemetery. It is understood, will con tain a handsome SIOO,OOO mausoleum, to be erected by the t'.eoraia Mauso leum Company. Whose representative. Mr. Clark Grier. haß been here for some time. The new cemetery now a sure deal, is to be situated on the old Koesel home place at the end of Moute Sano Avnue. and will front on Wheeler Road. The land Is bounded on the north by the property of P. A. Steiner, on the east by the property of the Country Club, on the south by Wheel er Hoad and on the west by Highland Avenue It will be near enough the street car line for ladies to go there unaccompanied. If necessary, and In every respect will furnish a splendid place Tor the new cemetery. The cemetery and mausoleum. It is learned, wi',l be set back off the street at least three hundred feet. The ground covers eighty acres, and ' is high and dry. J. —Louis Kuehnle, for mer political leader of Atlantic City, will be realesed from state prison on June Ist, the state court of pardons today having commuted his sentence of one year. Kuehnle was convicted of participating while a public official in the letting of a contract to a com pany in which he was interested.
