At a meeting of the River and Ca nal Commission held this morning it was dclded that it might be neces sary to send a committee on to Wash ington to take up with the war de partment and congress the question of appropriating for the levee. In the event it is decided to send a commit tee Chairman Thomas Barrett will appoint Messrs. R Roy Goodwin, Nis bet Wingfield and F. B. Pope. The question of a survey by the board of engineers is said to be the obstacle in the way of an appropria tion at this session of congress. It will be the purpose of the com mittee to remove this obstacle if pos sible so that the appropriation can be secured at this session. Burwell, for jeara the popular and efficient agent of the Southern Express Company at Augus ta, has been promoted to tho posi tion of inspector of service. It is probable that his headquarters will be in Atlanta. Mr. .John R. Wofford, formerly in spector of messenger service with headquarters in Savannah, has arriv ed ,ln Augusta to take charge of the Augusta agency.
