SAVANNAH COPPED THE FIRST
OF SERIES FROM AUGUSTA
Hawkins Worked Hard Throughout, But Finally Lost His
First Game of the Season—Augusta Locks Horns With the
Indians Again This Afternoon and Saturday—Watch the
Outcome of These Two Games.
Savannah copped the first of the
scries from Augusta in yesterday's
game by the score of 6 to 2 llawhins
worked hard and nicely all througn
but finally lost his first game of the
season by some ill luck that can never
be accounted for.
Augusta locks horns again with the
Indians this afternoon and tomorrow,
and in these games the Combacks are
certainty going to fight hard Mana
ger Brouthers states that the local ag
gregation is going to win both of these
games.
The Sea Gulls scored their first two
runs in the first inning, which is re
corded below:
First Inning.
Handiboe was (he first to face
Hawkins, and took a walk. Manager
Jape was next and rapped a nice one
to center which was copped. Handi
boc stole second. Mayer landed safe
on first and then on second bringing
in Har.diboc. Gust rapped one to cen
ter which was also copped. Zimmer
man landed safe on first, bringing in
Mayer oft his hit over third's head.
He was later put out going to second.
This retired the side, giving them a
lead of two runs.
Augusta was the next to score, she
making one of her runs in the fourth,
whicli is as follows:
Fourth Inning.
Norcott was the first man up and
landed safe on first. Clark was the
next on the progra mane) he also an
chored safe on first, while Norcott
went to second. Burgess rapped out
a neat little line drive which was held
bv the third baseman. Sabrie was
next and sent his bussing toward ren
ter, who caught the sphere. Kelley
was the next to face the twirler and
fanned at the first hall. Clark was
playing way off the second base and
•Smith thinking that he could easily
throw him out tried it. It could not
be accomplished and Clark stole third
just as N’orcott reached the home
plate, thus giving the Combackg their
first run. Kelley then knocked one
to center which retired the side.
Seventh Inning.
Augusta's next run was scored in
the seventh. The following players
participated in this inning l :
Sabrie started it off with a two
base hit. Kelley was next and was
thrown out at first. Sabrie went to
third Brouthers landed safe on first
bringing in Sabrie. Reynolds rapped
a bounder right into second's hands,
therefore putting Brouthers out going
to second. Reynolds was safe on
first. Hawkins let two pretty ones
• go by Just for the pleasure of hear
ing them hum and then missed the
last one, retiring the side. Savannah
scored her other four*runs in the sixth
and ninth. Three in the former and
the other in the latter.
