NEW YORK COTTON
New York. —Cotton showed no special
feature during today's early trading.
Liverpool was better than due and the
opening here wrfs steady, unchanged to
an advance of two points. Continued
reports of accumulating yarn stocks en
couraged a little selling which sent the
active positions about three to four
points net lower. Offerings, however,
were limited and the market soon
steadied on apprehensions of unsettled
weather in the western belt.
A bullish view of the week-end figures
give the market a firmer tone during
the early afternoon. May contracts sold
nine points nei higher, while liter de
liveries worked some five or six points
above yesterday's closing figures.

New Orleans.—Good cables were off
set by fsvorab'.e weather on the opening
of the cotton exchange First prices
were one to four points down. Half
an hour after the opening the market
was three down.
Buying based on prospects of wet and
mid weather for the belt put the trad
ing months three to four points over
yesterday's final f'gures at noon.

Liverpool.—Cotton spot steady; good
middling 7.78; middling 7.30; low mid

CHICAGO GRAIN MARKET
Chicago. Ills. —Wheat cables were
steady and prediction of rain had not
been fulfilled In the domestic winter
crop belt. Opened 1-4 off to 1-8 up,
followed by some advance ah around.
Corn steadied on buying by lending
speculators. Opened 3-8 to 7-8 lower
but soon recovered nearly all tha de
cline.
Oats steady.
Smaller pacers supported provisions.
Started from 5c off to a lie amount up
and the market seemed disposed to keep
within about such limits.
Dry weather talk ft-om the southwest
helped to harden wheal. Closed steady
at 1-8 to 1-4 net advance.

THREW WIFE AGAINST HOT
STOVE AND SHOT HER

Boonville, Ind.—Throwing his wife,
JJary, 42 years old, against a hot
stove in ills home here today, William
Folsom, 52 years old, formerly a pros
perous farmer, fired two shots into her
heart, killing her instantly. Then he
Inflicted three wounds in his own
breast, none of which, doctors say,
will prove fatal.
The shooting occurred from the
wife’s denial of Infidelity made to
Folsom, it is said, and her refusal of
his demand that she surrender her
wedding ring.
The Folsoms have ten children, from
3 to 25 years old.

gusta-Aiken Hallway and Electric
Corporation. Investigation disclosed
the fact that Fred dolphin, a negro
employed there, had thrown a fit. He
is now all right.
SURROUNDED IN SWAMP.
Escanaba, Mich. —Fearing armed re
sistance from Josep Parent and Clyde
Smith, suspected of numerous railway
station robberies, who late yesterday
took refuge in a swamp near here,
after a running fight with the police
posses guarding the swamp planned
to move cautiously today in efforts to
capture the alleged bandits.
