Citizens Passed Away. Fun

In the death at 9:20 lust night of Mr,

passed away. Mr. Csrr had been In
ill-health for a long lime but bis ru
eent Illness lusted only tine week.
For the past four years he had been
totally blind, yet he bore this afflic
tion and others with a fortitude which
whs wonderful. For the past ten years
lie had been librarian for the Young
Men's Library Association and tip to

He whs tireless In Ids 7.cal and en
ergy and although unable to see for
some vents his mind wns just as
bright us it ever was.
The deceased was horn in Charles
ton. J 4. C.. oil Kept 29. 183:1. lie was
educated there under the tutelage of
Dr. Corcoran and Bishop Lynch until
he went to the University of Berlin,
from which lie was graduated In 1934.
lb- was married In Augusta, April
lr.th, 1*57, to Miss Cecil* Plcquct.
Mr. Carr served during tho civil war
on the stuff of General "Shank" Evans
of South Carolina and rendered such
able service that he was made a cap
tain some lime before the end of the
war.
He moved to Angela after the
close of the war and has resided here
ever since.
Mr. Carr Is survived by five chil
dren. three sons and two daughters.
Hla sons are Messrs. Chns. D„ A. I'.,
and Pic rre Carr, of Augusta, and his
daughters are Mrs. Charles Smith, of
Augusta, and Mrs. A. C. Lanneau, of
Savannah. *
The funeral services will be held at
4 o'clock this afternoon from St. Pat
rick's church and the Interment will
be in the city cemetery. Tito follow
ing will act as pallbearers:
Messrs. John and Noel Moore. Aud-
Icy Hill. Geo. L. Twiggs, \V. N. Ben
ton. and Rene Broduer.
The sympathy of a large number of
people go out to the family in their
bereavement. Mr. Carr was a splen
did gentleman, whose passing will
cause much sorrow.

Release Bandit Suspects

Fields, and VV. B. Gray, who have been
held here for several weeks in connec
tion with robbery of the Queen and
Crescent Express truin near Birming
ham, Ala., in February, were released
today by order of U. S. Commission*.-!
Carter. They were immediately re
arrested on charge of dynamiting and
robbing a safe in Griffin, Ga.
Commissioner Carter held that no
case had been made against the three
men in connection with the train rob -
bery, although they had been partially
identified by A. B. Merville, an express
messenger as the bandits who robbed
his train of $40,000 near Birmingham.

DEATH FROM LOSS BLOOD
King David Severed Artery in
Leg With Axe While Cutting
Wood.
Washington, Ga.—Nearly dead from
the loss of Blood, King David, a plan
ter, was brought to Washington from
ins farm six miles from here Friday
night with a severed artery in his leg.
lie was cutting wood when the axe
glanced in some manner and the shaf t
point of the axe struck him on his left
leg below the knee. Mr. David stated
that he felt no pain after the accident
and considered it a matter of no con
sequence. He continued his work Gut
realized nearly half an hour later that
his foot was wet with blood and he
commenced to feel weak.
The members of his family and the
neighbors worked persistently to stop
the flow of blood witli various reme
dies but only succeeded in reducing
the flow with tight bandages. It was
four hours after Mr. David's' unsuual
experience before the wound was
finally dressed and the artery caught
up. ___
FAIL FOR $2,000,000.
Brussels, Belgium.—The brokerage
firm of Collet & De Coon suspended
payment Saturday with liabilities e«;
tiinated at $2,000,000. The partners,
who arc brothers-in-law, are uraler
arrest charged with fraudulent prac
tices.
The firm had numerous clients
among the Belgian aristocracy. One
of them, Count Ohampanille, is said
to have lost SIBO,OOO.
