The date> for Augusta’s next annual fall fair was changed from the first week in November to the next to the lMt week in October, at a meeting of til* directors of the Georgia-Carolina Fair Association held yesterday af ternoon at 6 o'clock in the offices of President James U. Jackson. The fair this year will take place October 19-23, inclusive. This does not in clude Saturday, as heretofore has been the custom. The state fair in Macon was some time ago decided to be held this year the first week in November. In order not to have the two conflict, the local fair association agreed to change its dates. It was voted yesterday by the di rectors to ask the full co-operation ol the Augusta newspapers, the mer chants and the general public to .mako the fair this year the greatest suc cess in the history of the association, There will be five days of the fair this year instead of six because usual ly the shows are tearing down on the last day of the week preparatory to moving away. The five days this year will all be big days. Each will be a feature day and it is confidently be lieved that the attendance will be much larger for the five days than for the six last year. A big attraction the latter part of fair week will be the annual gridiron clash between the University of Geor gia and Clemson College. It’s a two state fair and a two-state game. Cali fornia Frank will have his wild west show back again. He is at present still in winter quarters in Augusta. largT number at SERVICES TODAY Rev. Frank Hall Wright Spoke at 10:30 on “Conditions of Answer to Prayer.” A large congregation this morning at 10:30 heard Rev. Frank Wright on the subject "Conditions of Answers t oPrayers.” All the day services are being held at the St. John Methodist Church on account of the noise which must be made at the C. & W. C. depot by the shifting of freight. Both places adapt themselves well to the needs in this union revival effort. St. John’s is a quiet and pleasant auditorium and will perhaps hold the day congrega tions. The improvised auditorium at the C. & W. C. depot Is especially suited to the purpose, for though in its erection there was no thought of accoustic properties yet there Is no auditorium in town in which it is easier to hear from one end to the other. East night almost a thousand peo ple gathered to hear the evangelist who preached on “Witnesses Unto Christ.’’ With telling words he de clared how all may witness to Christ by standing firmly for the truth of the Bible which form beginning to end tells about the Lord. He said, further, that those who have Christ in their lives witness for him In ex ample. and can with effect tell about him to their fellowmen. He closed with an admonition to the Christian people to “talk up Christ if you be lieve in Him and if you feel that He is good for you and will be good for others.” Tonight at 8:15 the singing will be gin as the evangelist requested that more time should be spent in singing the gospel songs. The members of the chorus are requested to come early. It imposes a tax of two cents on every ten cigars of every two ounces of other tobacco products sold under the coupon sys tem A special meeting of the committee will be held next Tuesday to consider the bill. New York. —Bad water will he the army’s worst foe in Mexico if war is declared, according to Colonel M. L. Maus, chief surgeon of the first army division, which has headquarters at Governors Island. The water supply and sanitation system of Mexico, he explained, were so far behind modern methods that if any army should be sent into Mexico City an entirely new system would have to be pro vided. He estimated that millions of dollars would be expended by the United States for sanitation and that from a health standpoint American occupation of Mexico would be a good thing.for that country.
