GOV. SLATON REFUSES A
RESPITE TO CANTRELL
Atlanta, Ga. Governor Slaton was be
selged In vain up to a late hour this
morning to grant a respite for Jim Can
trell. Jrt years old, sentenced to hang
today In the Jail at Gainesville.
Jim Cantrell, along with his brother
Bart, is under sentence to die for the
murder of Arthur Hawkins. Jim being
convicted as an accessory to the crime

which had come down from Gainesville
to seek a respte, that he would not
thnk of grantng a further stay of execu
tion unless the judge and solicitor gen
eral of the Hall superior court requested
him to do so.
