TUESDAY.' APRIL 28. NATHAN HALE HAS NOTHING ON MUTT AND JEFF BY “BUD” FISHER LOCALS LOST GREAT GAME TO CHAS'N. YESTERDAY Inability to hit with men on bases was the principal cause of Augusta's defeat yesterday afternoon. The game was played before the largest crowd of the season, the attendance eclipsing opening cay by a considerable number. A ques tionable decision by a double steal al lowed the first 4 runners of the visitors to score, while Charleston's last run was made on clean hitting. Johnson out Pitched Eldridge although both slabmen twirled excellent ball. The crowd saw a beautiful game ano every one who attended got his money’s worth. There will be a double-header Tuesday. The game in detail: FIRST INNING. Mackart died on a liner to Clark, a pretty catch. Hamilton hit a grounder to Brouthers who threw him out at first. Kussell was out, Kelly to Sabrie. John son is showing a great deal of speed. Norcott hit to the pitcher and was out at first. Burgess fanned. Ashby hit a grounder to second who threw him out at first. i SECOND INNING. Marshall died via the Brouthers-Sa l>rie route. Prough popped out to Broutheis. Bernsen hit a short ground er • down the first base line and was out, Sabrie to Johnson who covered first. S&hrie was out on a grounder, third to first. Clarke died on a high fly to right. Brouthers was applauded when he stepped to the plate. He responded with a line hit to right-center for a sin gle. Kelly hit a high bounder over the pitched which he beat out for a hit, Brouthers going to second. Wheat end ed all chances however, by fouling out to third. The crowd overflows into the field. THIRD INNING. McMillan was safe when Kelly er- I rored on his grounder. Cain singled to left. Eldrldge sacrificed, going out. J pitcher to first. Mackert worked the j squeeze play and made first. Me- i Millan scoring. Working the double steal Clin scored and Mackert was safe at. second. Hamilton walked on four balls. Mackert was out trying to steal third. Wheat to Brouthers. Russell went out to Norcott on a short fly. Johnson skied to center. Norcott fanned. Burgess was givbn his base on balls. Ashby was out, pitcher to first. FOURTH INNING. Marshall fanned. Johnson's slow ball fooled him. He has an assortment o* very fast and also very slow balls. Prough was out, third to first. Bernsen hit a slow grounder to second and by a lightning throw Clark got him at first. Sabrie was out on a hot grounder, short to Clark singled to right. Brouthers singled over first and Clark went to second. Brouthers w?is forceo at second when Kelly's red hot ground er was knocked down by Eldrldge. Clarke was safe at third and Kelley at first Wheat died on a grounder, short to first. FIFTH INNING. McMillan fanned. Cain singled to left, his second hit. Eldridge was out second to first.
