Stage Reached in Contest.
Washington, D. C.—The fight over the
United States district attorneyship for
the southern district of Georgia has
reached an acute stage. Colonel Robert
1,. Berner, of Alacon, reached Washing
ton today and is making an active con
test to land the position.
Senator West, who feels that he'
rightfully claims the privilege of filling,
the position since It Is In his part of
the state, and Senator Hoke Smth had]
the naming of the district attorney for i
the northern district, has put three
names before the department of Justice.

This afternoon as we are going to
press a large number of the young
people of Augusta are gathered at Kt.
John's Methodist church to hear the
Rev. Frank Hall Wright, the leader
In the union evangelistic meetings.
They were Invited to come at ten min
utes before four, fifteen minutes being
promised of Indian stories, customs
and slgn-langunge, after which the
evangelist Is scheduled to preach to
the children.
This morning at 10:30 Mr. Wright
continued his discussion of the work
of the Holy Spirit, especially referring
to wh<re he accomplished his work,
the enlightenment of the mind through
the Word of God, and the renewal of
the heart, and the purification of the
conscience. ,

the auditorium constructed in tiy>
west end of the new C. & W. C. depot
andl heard a great sermon on the

Colorado Strikers Balloting.
Arrival of Federal Troops
Has a Quieting Effect.
Denver, Colo. —Action of the coming
special session of the Colorado legis
lature in regard to the coal miners'
strike, the disposition of the federal
troops in the southern strike zone, the
decision of the strikers at Trinidad
relative to the surrender of arms and
possibility of further federal interven
tion in the labor controversy were ab
sorbing features of the strike situation
today. No acts of violence had been
reported from the strike regions for
more than 24 hours. The coming of
tile federal soldiers put an end to out
breaks at Fremont, i.as Animas and
Huerfano counties and the mobiliza
tion of state troops and home guards
in Boulder and Weld counties in the
northern zone had a quieting Influ
ence there.
To Federal Troops.
In Trinidad today a vote was to he
taken by the strikers as to whether
they would surrender their arms to
the federal forces under Major Hol
brook The action taken there It is
thought will be followed in detail by
the strikers In Huerfano and Fremont
counties.
Major Holbrook had publicly stated
that the federal troops had no Inten
tion of disarming the mine guards, so
long as they remain on company prop
erly and confined their activities to
protecting the company property.
Bond Issus.
Governor Ammons has asked that
the legislature, at Its special session,
authorize a lend Issue to finance the
past and future maintenance of the
state militia and enact laws to make
arbitration of labor disputes compul
sory, to provide means of enforcing
the decisions of arbitration hoards,
and to prohibit the distribution of
ammunition and liquor In troubled
zones during the times of civil strife.

700 Refugees at
Detention Camp
New Orleene.—The first of the refu
gees from Mexico to be released from
the quarantine station left here today
for their homes In various parts of the
United Htates. Nearly seven hundred
remain at the detention camp hut
practically all of them will he released
within the next 48 hours.
