TWO 1920 Greater Minstrels Enjoy Banquet One of the most delightful affairs of the season »jis the combined an nual meeting by the 1920 (ireater Alin • trel Club last Thursday night at the College Inn. So thoroughly enjoyable the avjtper. that the men almost overlooked the fart that Important business had to be transacted. The banquet Itself was under the persona I supervision of one of the club's most valued members, Mr. John Box, and this popular gentleman left nothing to he detuned The vote of thanks tendered him during the course of the meeting only partially expressed the real appreciation of the men. The entire troupe was present and iu> body of men ever more thoroughly enjoyrvi every moment of the time Congeniality and good feeling to r ■ prevalent throughout the entire time, and etery man present seemed to try to out-do the other In saying kind things about Itis fellow associates The men all felt that this spiemli I 1920 Club was Indeed like one iudi vidual and that they ware highly hon ored by having their names on Its membership roll. With solos and choruses by the men, repetition of Hots, ete., from Uie recent perform anee. NEWS OF SOCIETY ... was spent in one long delightful man ner, several of the men being called upon for impromptu speeches, all of whAn gracefully responded, although they were only a few of them real orators. The whole evening was one of Joy and good-fellowship and one that will remain long In the memory of those who were present. It. only served to bring the men closer to i ether and create a new personal feel ing. which has always existed among the fluh. Naturally the subject of the most frequent toasts was the hon ored president of the club, Mr. .1. .1. Mathewes. Iflaeh and every man felt that It' was Impossible to shower too much honor on their popular leader, who deserves all praise. During the course of the business meeting, sev eral matters of Importance were dis cussed. On a motion which \vbh made and carried unanimously, every official and committee were reelect ed for the coming season. The only change was that of Mr. 0. C!. Delmon ico, as chairman of the music com mittee. Mr. Delmonico’s resignation was read and accepted by the dub, only because of the fact that there was no choice In the matter. The 1920 Club realize fully their loss in such a member. Mr. Deo Cotter was elected to fill Mr. Delmonico's place In the club, while Mr. Jas. Mulberin filled Mr. Cotter’s place on the music committee. Doth of these talented gentleman are eminently fitted for their duties. Several communications were read from various charitable or ganizations of the city, requesting tiie benefit of the 1920 performance next, season, but It was decided not to take any ae).ion until just, prior to the show next year. The chief feature and the most important one as re, yards the re election of the old offi cers, Is the fact, that the elub will re tain the services of its valued presi dent., Mr. .1. .1 Mathewes. No more popular and loved man ever headed any organization, and his wonderful ability places him easily above any one else that could possibly he found. To t!he boys as well as his friends, “Jim’’ is always the same, loyal aril true and held in the highest personal esteem by all who know him The public a« well as the 1920 Club ap preciate the fact that this organiza lion is fortunate, in every way, to ue able to claim Mr. Mathewes’ services another season. During the course of the business meeting, some tew of the men were requested to participate in a coming minstrel performance at the itrottprs’ Hall. For the benefit of the public and to correct, a mis taken idea, it is stated, I hat while these men are members of the 1920 Club, their participation in this com ing* show, will he absolutely no con nection with the recent, performance of the 192 u Greater Minstrels, It be ing' merely individual work by a few of the men. There will be positively no repetition’of the 1980 Greattr Min strels In Augusta until next season This information Is given by the club as official. WILHENFORD NOTES. The regular meeting of the Chil dren's Hospital Association will be held on Tuesday, May Fith, at 11 o’clock at the Y. W. C. A. 1920 MINSTRELS SHOW APPRECIATION. Last Thuraday nl*ht, after the con clualon of the annual meeting and banquet of llie 1830 Minstrel Club, the man present decided on a ratliar unua uul and novel manner of showing Iheir appreciation to two of the club's moat loyal frleinJa. ljulto naturally, tbe hanquet being atrlctly a "ata*" affair, the presenre of the ladlaa had to be denier] but the men were determined that at least two of their friends of the oppposlte sex should not be sllglit ed, and though these could not attend the banquet, the next best thin* was to tiring the banquet to them, or uk, least ua much of It aa was possible. Consequently, four automobiles, car ry In* the entire party of monatrel men started out from Tbe College Inn, af ter tbe meeting bad adjourned, and proceeded to the home of Miss Alice Doyle, on upper Broad St Though tak en completely by surprise, Miss Doyle was more than equal to the occasion, and received her *n«ats In her usual delightful and lufoytmtl way. The spaelous parlor was fhrftwn open and for an hour, the men almost thought they were again going through the re lent minstrel performance. In repeti tion of songs, acts, etc., of show. “Miss Alice," as she is known to all the men of the club, was unable to make a “speech," though she was re peal edly urged to do so, but she was ** l lV represented, on the occasion, by Mr. t'ul Lamar. who .was kind enough to tnforn the men that the Indy was “spepei bless with thanks." The men 1 thst thei have in Miss Doyle’, not nlv a staunch friend but one who has been, for years, the musical dlrec tess of the club, and as such, respon sible for the success of the entire musical portion of their performances. “Miss Alice" has made herself Indis pensable to the 11120 Club and the men #ll swear by her, realizing that she has always been a sincere friend to theelub. Quite a pleasant feature of the evening was the “presentation" to Miss Doyle by Hon. 1,. C. Hayne, of a package that closely resembled a square t>ox. The men were not per mitted to see the contents, as this was overlooked, in the excitement, but through no fault of Miss Doyle her self. After the party had 'eft her home, tl was decided despite toe late hour to "serenade" another of the loy al friends of the club, Mrs, K. B. Bax ter Though, of course. Mrs Baxter was unable to open her home at the late hour, she showed, tn every other way possible, her sincere appreciation of the visit of the men, who tried to honor her with songs and ehorusses from the recent minstrel. The men of ltie 1930 Club know that, tn Mrs, Bax ter, they possess a true friend, one who has given freely of her time and efto«* ,o the performances In the last. Their appreciation knew of no better expression than the visit to her home Thursday night. WANTED, GAMES FOR SETTLEMENT HOME.
