' M. E. MEETING
The General Conference of the
Southern Churches Will Take
Place in Oklahoma.
The general conference of the Meth
odist Church, South, will meet May
■he 6th in Oklahoma City, Okla. The
general conference Deems every Tour
yearn, and Id the law-making body of
the church.- It brings together the
I leading men, clerical and lay, of the
Met odist Church, South, and is at
! tended hy great numbers of visitors.
The general conference always
meets the first Wednesday in May
and inay run a month. Before it come
the questions of policy and practice
of the church. It elects all the agents
of the church, the secretary of the
Sunday school board, the secretary
of church extension, the editor of
The Nashville Christian Advocate,
mission secretaries, etc. To it these
and other agents make their reports.
It reviews and revises the Chuich
Discipline and publishes it once every
four years.
Seven Delegates.
Kach state conference has seven
delegates from the clergy and eeven
from the laymen. These were elect
ed at the conferences of last year.
It is the desire of most of the preach
ers to attend the general conference
but the honor cun come to but few.
The laymen are selected hb are the
preachers, because of their special
fitness Tor the work of church legis
lation. Augusta will have at the gen
<yal conference this year some of her
former pastors. The Kev. H. M. Du-
Bose, formerly pastor of St. John, led
the delegation at the conference last
year and will lead the Georgia dele
gation at Oklahoma He Is perhaps
one of the strongest preachers In
Southern Methodism.
As Delegates.
Rev. ,T. H. Fakes, formerly pastor
of St. John’s and presiding elder of
the Augusta district, will go as a dele
gate. The other clerical delegates
are: J. E. Hickey, president Emory
College; J. A. Sharp, W. P. Lovejoy,
C. O. Jones, it. G. Smith; altern
ates, B. P. Allen, T. J. Christian,
Fletcher Walton; Lay delegates, L.
M. Heard, Asa O Candler, K. A. Cope
land. M. M. Parks, W. W. Pilcher,
T. \V Harbin. T. J. Duncan; altern
ates, J. H. Ewing, J. M. Pound and
C. T. Bacon.
At the general conference It Is like
ly a number of new bishops will be
elected. Dr. H. M. Dußose, it is
thought by many, stands a good
chance of levatlon this year. On
many occasions he has been spoken
of as the most likely man for the
bishopric nt the approaching meeting,
ami his friends hope to see him so
honored. Few men of any church are
more sincere to their convictions than
he, few men are so well qualified for
such an exalted office.

LOOKING AHEAD
HABIT
A bank account is an education in foresight—it
teaches the man who has it to think in terms of
next week and next month and next year. THE
LOOKING AHEAD HABIT is one of the first char
acteristics of the successful business man.
Money in the bank is a great little helper to the
long - headed thinker. Remember it takes money
to PUT THINGS OVER. Why don't you get that
"Looking Ahead" habit by starting a bank ac
count with this bank?
