SHOT AT MAN WHO HIT HIS OWN FATHER Jim Seeley Wounded Jesse Stafford in the Hand at the Locks Yesterday. Jim Seeley, a white man well-known about town, shot in the hand at the Docks yesterday. Jesse Stafford, after the latter, so it is said, had knocked his own father. Tucker Stafford, down. It seems that the three were on a fishing excursion to the Locks and that the young man Staffard and his father had an argument. Stafford, so it is stated, knocked the father down and then See ley procured a shotgun and fivod at Jes se Stafford wounding him in the hand. Atlanta, Ga. —The Atlanta Georgian yesterday printed the following: Hugh M. Dorsey, solicitor general of i the Atlanta circuit of the superior court I of Georgia, is to be a candidate for the I democratic nomination for the governor ship. While no formal announcement to that effect has been given out directly by j Mr. Dorsey himself, the fact that he is |to enter the forthcoming primary for the chief magistracy of the state comes from sources of the most dependable and authoritative kind, and the solicitor himself does not deny that lie is to try for the governorship. Dorsey has been the recipient literal ly of thousands of letters, telegrams and ! verbal petitions of late that he make the I race for the governorship, and, while it jis a fact that he attached far less im portance to these communications in the beginning than he has of late, it in known that lie has been impressed for i some time with the idea that there is a I real, genuine and far-reaching demand j that he permit the people an opportunity to say whether he shall go higher in the public service. Made Solicitor by Brown. Dorsey’s present office is the first of a political nature he ever held. He was appointed solicitor by Governor Jos eph M. Drown, following the death of tiie late Solicitor Charles Hill—Judge Den Hill’s brother—and was elected sub sequently by the people of the Atlanta circuit to succeed himself. Davis was In Augusta yesterday on an official visit to Game Warden l.a nler, of this county. He Is touring the eastern part of the state in hlit locomobile getting personally ac quainted with his wardens. He lejt here for Waynesboro, Mlllf-n, Sylvania and Statesboro, hoping to be hack at his office In Atlanta by Saturday night. Commissioner Davis stated that he was well pleased with the work that has gone on under Mr. Lanier's su pervision and said that the law gene rally is being well upheld in Geor gia. JUGGLED NEW HAVEN JIOLLIONS Methods Used Told Inter state Commerce Commission By John L. Billard. Washington. D. C. —A detailed state ment of transactions of the Hillard Com pany with tiie New York, New Haven •and Hartford railroad, its officers and! subsidiaries, was made before the inter state commerce commission today by John Ti. Dillard, who organized the con cern. He outlined me method by which, with the aid of Chas. S. Mellen, then president of the New Haven, and a loan from the Now England Navigation Com pany, a New Haven subsidiary, he took over the stock of the Doston and Maine railroad owned by the New Haven, which the Massachusetts courts decided the New Haven could not hold. After holding the stock a year. Diflard said, he re-sold it to the Doston Railroad Holding Co., another New Haven sub sidiary at a profit of $25 a share of 109.94 S shares. In payment for the stock he said he took $16,250,000 in gold notes of the New England Investment and Security Co., a New Haven concern, and the Dillard Company was formed to handle this transaction. Dillard put $2,- 000.000 into the Dillard Company, he said, and sold It to the New* England Investment Co., notes receiving the $2,- •000,000 cash and $14,250,000 in Billard Company notes in payment. These Dill ard notes, in accordance with an ar rangement with Mr. Mellen. he Raid, were bought by the New England Navi gation Company.
