Broad and Tenth Streets We Claim the Best Shoe Values That Can Be Se cured Anywhere— Why? Society GOSSIP. Is she infirm, a haggling witch of low ering mein; Is this the Gossip we have heard but never seen; Is she this kind? No, gentle dreamer, seldom is she so: Rather has she many shapes, say those who know And felt the glow Of shame and sorrow, fear and rage of mind, — Such are the passions that her thrusts unbind. Sometimes she takes the guise of dainty maids quite fair: What moots it her the guise she takes, what doth she care? They serve her ends: The old, the young of high and low degree; Sometimes her guise is that of even thee: In -wanton glee She doth infect all souls who come her way And listen to evil of her say. No optimist can ever say she aught did good: She longs to cloak her helpless vic tims with a hood Of fear and shame: She's always on the move, her vampire tongue Doth wag as litanies that imps have sunpr: 'Till love has won Upon this land of idle humans vain. She’ll always be our horror and our bane. —H. H. A. CRANFORD CALENDAR. Tuesday—Mrs. T. W. Loyless. Friday— Friday morning, 11:30, Topics, Club. CHILDREN’S CARNIVAL CHAT.
