NAMED LAST NIGHT
Mass Meeting of the Voters of
the City of Augusta Held at
Courthouse. Mr. Julian M.
Smith Again Chairman.

tive comrnltt.ee for the city for the
next three years The meeting was
culled to order by Mr. Julian M. Smith,
chairman of the white primary com
mittee, and Mr. T. F .Harrison was
made temporary chairman. Mr. W.
Inman Furry then offered resolutions
nominating a new committee, specify
ing that Mr. Julian M. Smith again be
chairman and fixing substantially the
same rules that have been in force for
the past three years. The resolutions
were unanimously adopted. The fourth
Monday in May, 1917, the terms of
the committeemen elected last night,
will expire.
The following resolutions were in
troduced by Mr. Furry:

Resolved that the following named
citizens of the Fity of Augusta f>e
elected to constitute the White Pri
mary Executive Committee of the
City of Augusta, (la., for three years
< ornmencing from this date, and end
ing on the fourth Monday in May,
1917, as follows, to-wit:

Second ward —J. Frank Carswell.

Resolved further. That Julian M.
Smith is elected by this mass meeting
as chairman of the White Primary
Executive Committee for the City of
Augusta as hereinbefore set forth.

Primary Executive Committee as
hereinbefore set forth is authorized to
fill all vacancies that may occur in its
membership.
Resolved further, That this mass
meeting does hereby instruct the pri
ll ary committee Just named, that the
primary elections to be held during
their term of office, shall be held sub
ject to substantially the same rules
and regulations as have been hereto
fore adopted for the conduct of the
l rimary elections held in the City of
Augusta.
Resolved further. That said primary
committee shall use their best efforts
to Insure the sanctity of thie secret
ballot system as heretofore conducted.
Resolved further That this mass
meeting do Instruct the City White
Primary Executive Committee to call
another mass meeting for the fourth
Monday in May, 1917, at 8:30 o’clock
p. m., at the Court House of Richmond
county, for the election of its succes
sors for the ensuing term of three
years, and for the transaction of such
other business a«* may properly come
before the meeting.

Week.
Application-i are being received at
the Association this week by Mr. Dan
lialTord for the annua! Y. M. C. A.
summer camp for its boy members
between the ages of 10 and 16 years.
The camp will go to Graniteville, a
most excellent resort, for two weeks
(he latter part of Jutie. The exact
date has not as yet been fixed.
Mr. Halford announced today that
most of the old cots used at the As
ociation's camp for boys last year
had been recovered and that some ad
ditional ones had been purchased, so
this year more boys can he taken. He
says that he expects to have at least
fifty youngsters, and believed that
the camp this summer will be larger
than anv ever held for the boys of
the Y. M. C. A.
