LIEU VIEWS
PRESBYTERIS
Action of Assembly So Far
Taken As Victories For That
Wing of Church.
Kansas City, Mo-Commissioners
t.o the general assembly of the Pres
byterian Church in the United States
(Southern Presbyterian) in session
here, who are inclined to hold liberal
views, as ert that several actions
taken by the assembly are victories
Tor their wins of the church.
They point to the action yesterday
In allowing ruling boards of the va
rious churches to choose between
fermented wine and grape juice for
use in communion services as a great
step in advance.
Several years ago a minister who
would vary the communion service a
particle would be liable for trial be
fore his presbytery.
Closer Relations.
It is also urged that the approval
of the overture !rom the council of
the reformed churches in America
looking to closer relations and more
effective administrative co-operation
between the several Presbyterian
and Reform churches represented in
the council signifies a breaking away
from the ultra conservative spirit,
which ins dominated the cliureh.
The disagreement which threaten
ed between the women’s council and
tlie general assembly, it is said, also
attracted attention to that, part of the
church membership which it was de
clared does most of the work of the
church and receives the least credit
the women.
Two matters discussed today were
the report on systematic bene
ficence and the ad interim report on
education
Systematic Benlficence.
Tlie recommendation of the system,
atlc beneficence committee in asking
for an immediate million dollars for
foreign missons may be opposed by
tlio e advocates of home missions on
tlie ground that such an amount
could he better invested in the United
States.
With the adoption of the reports of
the executive committees on foreign
missions and home missions, two re
ports which, have interfered with the
progress of the legislative ce.-sions
were removed. W J. Martin, of Dav
idson. N, C., moderator, said today
that he expected the assembly to ad
journ tonight or tomorrow.
An interesting feature of the dis
cussion of thp home mission report
was figures given to the general as
sembly by the Rev. H. M. Pressley, of
Charlotte, N. C., who said the cost
to win one convert in the home mis
sion field is sr,n and that city
churches spend $270 for every man,
woman and child converted.
FOREIGN TRADE IS
HlSUiy lIPORTANT
So Says Fairfax Harrison,
President of Southern Rail
way at National Foreign
Trade Convention.
Washington.—The importance of
foreign trade to the railroads was dis
cussed at the National Foreign Trade
Convention here today by Fairfax
Harrison, president of the Southern
Hallway, who said that there was no
doubt of the eagerness of transpor
tation lines, both steamship and rail
way, to afford ample service in the
building up of a foreign trade, but
tlie present difficulty w r as the irreg
ularity with which the manufactur
eis of the United Sleets took up the
Invasion of foreign markets.
"Our home market is so large," he
said, "that, as the producers of manv
manu actured articles. It is difficult
to interest them in export husintss,
except as an outlet for surplus pro
duetion during times of depression
In the United States Service to
foreign markets cannoi he provided
merely to meet such contingencies
i op can trade relations he establish
ed upon such an uncertain Tooting.
The wiser course would seem to be
for our manufacturers to seek the de
velopment of permanent and regular
export trade as supplementary to
their business In the United States.
Then, if at any time their homo de
mand should decline, they will he
better protected In the maintenance
of organization and output and will
he better prepared to take advantage
of trade conditions In other countries,
which are frequently the reverse of
our own."
Ho pointed out that the railways
wore making efforts to bring about
an ihcre.ise In foreign commerce, and
as an instance he cited the action of
the Southern Hailway in appointing
a "South American agent," a man
who was for a long time In the con
eular service In South America and
whose sole business was to be the
building up of exisvrt traffic to Cen
tral and South American countries
through the Southern ports, by Inter
estlng merchants and manufacturers
In the imsslhllltles of such trade.

A DEMONSTRATION
BRIGHTS DISEASE
A permanent recovery in a critical
case of Bright s Disease should be of
general interest. Here’s another:
Nine years ago W. E. Strickland of
230-6th Street San Francisco, was so
far down with Rright’s Disease that
he had convulsions nearly every day
for three weeks and the end did not
look ia r away. His physician, Dr.
Kelly, thought there was no hope.
The late E L. Baldwin, President of
the Ferry Drug Company was instru
mental in having Fulton’s Renal Com
pound administered. There was not
only a recovery but it was perma
nent,, for the patient called, appar
ently well on February 27, 1914, and
left a specimen which tested normal
as follows; Specific gravity 1024; al
bumen none; sugar none.
The ability of Fulton’B Renal Com
pound to reduce albumen in many
cases of Bright’s Disease is not a mat

Human Factors in Good Service
■"THERE are three parties to each telephone connection—the
1 party who calls, the trained operator, and the party who
answers.
The telephone user shares with the operator the responsi
bility for good service.
Accuracy in calling, promptness in answering, clear and de
liberate talking and patience on the part of the user and the
operator, are essentials of good service.
in making 26,000,000 calls daily, millions of telephone
users become integral parts in the Bell system and contribute
to the success of the service.
