Kennedy defeated Coles Phinizy and W. T. Gary for the doublet* championship of Au gusta on the courts of the Lakeside Boat Club yesterday afternoon. The winners won the straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 and 6-4. The winner of the best three out of five was the team to be declared the city champions. A. M. Kennedy also won the singles championship for the city nnd will meet Fi. B. Garrett, the winner of last year, provided Mr. Garrett decides to defend his title. J. B. Hester was runner up in the singles and R. Capers won the consolation. The play attracted a great deal of attention and there was a good gallery each afternoon. HAROLD MEYER IS SUP’T OF STATESBORO INSTITUTE Will Assume Charge of School of 600 Pupils at Opening Next Fall—Here on Vacation. The many friends of Mr. Harold T). Meyer, of this city, will find consider able Interest in the announcement that he has been made superintendent of the Statesboro Institute, at States boro, Ga., a school of some six hun dred pupils. He is home for the sum mer holidays. Mr. Meyer is but 21 years of age and since his graduation from college two years ago has been teaching at the Statesboro Institute In the capac ity of assistant superintendent. In charge of the high school department. Next year Mr. Meyer will have at the head of the high school Miss Ev ans, of Warrenton. Mr. Meyer is an old Richmond Academy boy and one who is making history for his alma mater as well as for himself. Mr. Meyer Is well known in Augusta and his career, although it is being made elsewhere, is being watched here witli a great deal of pride. MR. H. W.
