AT THE BIJOU THE BIJOU— .< Court life in Napoleon’s time with its delightfully wicked environs, hand somely-gowned and beautiful women mingling with their escorts in uni forms bedecked in gold lace or wearing the formal dress of the period, enhance the beauty and exquisite grandeur of the stage settings in George Kleine’s intensely dramatic photodrama, "For Napoleon and France.” This marvel ous production, in six parts, is the at traction at the jjijou Theater today and tomorrow only. The pictures begin at 4:00, 7:00 and 9:00 p. m. Although it is largely based on his torical events during the time that the rule of the Little Corsican was su preme, it. is the romanticism on which this latest success has won its wide spread popularity. The martial at mosphere is intense, however, and the fortunes of the chief characters in the story are cleverly Interwoven with realistic spectacular battles that were fought during the Napoleonic wars. Capt. Robert Larive returns from one of these wars acclaimed a hero by France and decorated for his bravery. The heroic soldier, who laughed at death and was unconquerable In lead ing an attack on the field of carnage, met his Waterloo in the strange sur roundings of the French court, with its mingled aura of iniquity, depravity and gayety. His charmer was an al luring beauty of world-wide fame, lie, the hero of many a sanguinary and hotly-contested conflict, became so in fatuated with the adventuress, Madame De Longueville, that he was as straw in her hands. His escape from death through the mercy of Napoleon, when it seemed that the woman of smiles, deceit and amativeness would collect his life as a toll, is dramatically and vividly portrayed. Each and every one of the parts of this romantic and spectacular photo drama makes the spectators forget for the time being, that they are simply onlookers, but mkes them feel Instead that they are mingling among the per sons and scenes vltuallzed before them.
