First Stage in Siege of Guad
alajara Accomplished By the
Constitutionalists.

zatland, Mexico—(Via wireless to
Han Diego, Calif.)— The first stage of
the siege of Guadalajara has been ac
complished by the constitutionalists
with the interception of all communi
cation between that city and the cap
ital. Information reached the Ameri
can fleet today that the constitution
alists had cut the telegraph and rail
roads at Yurecuaro.
Yurecuaro is in northern Michoa
can about half way between Guada
lajara and Guanajujato and a seizure
of tJhe Mexican Central at that point
not only cuts off reinforcements from
Mexico City but intercepts the branch
line that comes north from Ixis
Reyes.
There is no danger of a Yaqui In
dian rising in the valley back of
Guaymas, according to assurances
given the commander of the gunboat
Annapolis by constitutionalists ope
rating around Guaymas. The Amer
ican commander has arranged with
constitutionalist headquarters to com
municate with the sixty-two Ameri
cans in the Yaqui River Valley, how
ever, to make sure that they are not
in need of assistance.
Spanish residents of Acapulco have
taken to the water for safety. With
whatever personal (froperty they have
been able to collect -hey have gone
'board vessi \i in the harbor and are
now under the protection of the
raiser Chattanooga.
The cruiser Albany has been ord(
ed (o investigate the circumstances
of the imprisonment of F. J. Smith,
an American at Tond/a.

On next Sunday evening the Ftrijt
Presbyterian church will commence
having the open-air services which
have been so kirgely attended during
the past two summers, and it is ex
pected that there will lie a large
crowd at tills service. Additional seat
ing capacity has been provided and
nothing will be left undone to make
these services helpful and interesting.
The music for these services has al
ways been good, but for this season
arrangements have been made towards
making It even more attractive than
heretofore. Teh organist, Mrs. T. H.
t’.arrett, and the quartet choir of this
church will be assisted in these ser
churchvices by a large chorus and a
splendid "rehestra. They will ren
der the following program, beginning
promptly at 8:10 p. m.:

this as well as the morning service
of the church.
