SPEER REPORT IS NOW READY In Printer’s Hand and Will Be Placed Before Judiciary Com mittee Next Week. Washington, D. C.—The reports and recommendations of Congressman Webb, Fltz Henry and Volatead, with reference to the charges against Judge Emory Bper, are ready, and may be sent to the government printing office tonight. Chairman Webb stated to- ; day that he hoped the case would be l presented to the judiciary committee , some time next week. The sub-com- ; mittee received today a supplemental brief from Judge Hpcr, bearing tes- I timony as to his high character. "It would be highly improper for me 1 to discus the nature of the report," j said Mr. Webb. "Pending its submis- | sion to the judiciary committee I will say nothing with reference to the case.” No Conference. Mr. Volstead stated that he had not j been in conference with either Messrs Webb or Fltzhenry and had no Idea what they would recommend. "1 have been invited to no confer ence with Messrs. Webb and Fitz benry, and of course am unfamiliar with their views as regards the evi- , dence taken in Georgia," said Mr. Volsl .id. "I am ready to make a re- ! port, but it is my opinion that the Judiciary committee will not be ready to take up the Speer case for ten days or two weeks. We are engaged right now on trust agitation and I believe this will hold the attention of : the members of the Judiciary commit- j tee to the exclusion of everything else fror the immediate future.” From the fact that Mr. Volstead, the ] Republican member, has held no con- j ference with Messrs. Webb and Fltz- I henry, the Democrats, it is assumed that two reports will be submitted to the judiciary committee. The fact is regarded as corroborative of the im pression that Volstead will recommend exoneration and that Webb and Fltz henry will not be so lenient. Disagreement? It Is the belief here that a disagree ment In the sub-committee, such as Is suspected, may result in delaying final action in the Speer case indefinitely. The judiciary committee, it Is stated, In the event of disagreement, would be disposed to read the record In the j case very carefully before acting on tile reports and making a recommen- i dation to the house. The record is j voluminous, and time would he re quired for the committee to read and j digest all the, evidence. Another possibility. In the event of disagreement 111 the sub-committee, is that the judiciary committee may de cide along party lines in its recommen dations to the house, and that tne house itself would divide along similar lines.
