It is said that soon the social
tedium is to be enlivened by an
amateur performance at the Grand
when a number of the leading peo
ple of Augusta will be seen in a
"Society Vaudeville,” the beneficia
ries of this affair to the Augusta
Baseball Club. It goes without say
ing that the Grand will be filled on
this occasion and that anything put
on will be strictly up-to-date.
Two of the most, beautiful spots
in Augusta this spring and summer,
places that everybody who has
been most enthusiastic in their
admiration of were the tennis court
at May Park and the vetch at
Allen Park. The tennis court,
which is enclosed in a high wire
netting, is framed in dainty Dorothy
Perkins roses, which still have a
wealth of bloom respite the long
continued drought. The vetch in
Allen Park has just been harvested
and was an exquisite two-tone pic
ture with its great spikes in bloom
and its rich green foliage which
glowed like delicate amathysts, set
in green enamel, so deep anr purple
were the blossoms that it servtd to
create an amethystine atmosphere
for several inches above the turf.
The marriage of Miss Alice Mc-

You Can Refurnish or Replace at Rare Reductions Now
A business policy that always guards the customer’s interest lends weight to this plain, unvanished announcement of our
Annual June Sale of furniture and home furnishings—we do not think it necessary to enlarge upon the economies for judging by
the public’s confidence in our methods in sales of the past, the honesty of the savings is quite well understood.
Coming on the threshold of the “vacation season” the reductions are timely because they apply to the most wanted tilings
for the summer home. But the city home has been thought of too, as many of the examples listed below go to show.

A pretty compliment was paid Miss
Paulina Benson previous to her
leaving Atlanta where she has done
some fine work in the reference de
partment of the Carnegie Library,
when she was entertained with a
beautiful luncheon, the guests at
which were her conferees at >thc
library. Miss Benson arrived Yes

at the Young Men's Library Wed
nesday, June lirst.
A pretty and deserved compliment
has been paid Mrs. George Erastus
Whitney by a Northern publishing
company which has gotten out two
of her poems, “The Man Who Un
derstands” and "The Woman Who
Understands,” as a gift card. The
cards are elegant and very chaste, in
perfect keeping with the beautiful
sentiments which the poems voice.
Dr. and Mrs. Traylor are having a
delightful time abroad, and despite
the fact that the trip was almost
exclusively for the doctor to study,
they are working and playing most
systematically. On the boat going
over, among the distinguished pas
sengers was Dr. Mayo, of Roches
ter, one of the famous Mayo
brothers, and a pleasant little ac
quaintance sprung up between him
and the Traylors, one of the pleasing
results being several letters of in
troduction to various surgeons of
world renpwn. Among them, two In
Paris, and on their arrival these
letters being represented, Dr. Thay
lor was immediately invited to tie
present at four or five operations
handled by one of the surgeons, ope
rations that proved most interesting
as a scientific treat to Dr. Traylor,
while the other surgeon entertained
them very beautifully at his home, a
most unusual thing, for generally
when the Parisean wishes to extend
hospitality to a comparative stranger,
he invites him to his club or the
case, rarely Is he invited en famille.
Speaking of people and things
European, they say Mr. Pressly s
visit to the States in July is occa
sioned by his desire to be trans
ferred to another consulate. While
Paris is most fascinating In many
ways, the climate does not agree
with Mrs. Pressly's health, so anoth
er place is being sought. It is a
matter of regret that Mrs. Pressly
and Miss Marguerite Pressly will not
come to Augusta, but will spend
their time at Washington and Vir
ginia. Mrs. Harriss D’Antignac,
Jr., and her small son, will come
over with them and come direct
home.

TWO LITTLE REBELS.
Miss Wilhelmina Nurnherger scores a
great hit with her play Friday night
at the Houghton school when "Two Lit
tle Rebels” was put on by a number of
the scholars, the two leading roles being
cleverly taken by Miss Annie Rahner
and Miss I/utra Tobin, and the other
charaeters assumed by Misses Mary By

Kuhlke, Ruth Rae and Dorothy Parks.
The play hinged on the Civil War anil
was a clever production from start to

old-time costumes and the delicious
customs of the ante-bellum period.
