THE COMING OF THE SOLDIERS.
Augusta la to be congratulated on
securing the government maneuver
cami> this summer. It means more
publicity, more activity, more people,
more money to be spent In Augusta
during the summer season, it ought
to mean a good many people nttract
eislfcrsion rates during the ctusinpmsbt
The railroads ought to give Augusta
excursion rates during the ncampment
period. At any rate, a good many »x
--curslons on special days ought to be
secured for Augusta this umincr.
..ugueta le discriminated against
during the summer In the matter of
excursion rates. All the roads put
on rates AWAY from Augusta to the
mountains, to tha sea-shore, to llu>
North and to the East It Is ull go
ing out and nothing coming In. With
the soldiers encamped In Augusta, ex
cursions ought to be put on by tho
roads to bring the people to Augtislu
to watch t!.« maneuvers.
Another good thing about Augusta
securing the encampment has been to
bring about an agreement between the
street railway and the Autnoad cor
poration for an extension of the street
car lines and the opening up of new
territory and subdivisions for the city.
With street car service, and with
water mains secured for the Aumond
corporation. It will Inevitably mean
tho development of a new suburb for
the city of Augusta.
And this means huylng and selling
of real estate, building of hoinca and
general activity all along the line.
Augusts is growing and Is going to
continue to grow.
