SPORTLETS
(By J. H. S.)
The Macon Tigers won their game
yesterday and the Combacks lost. This
ties the two clubs up for second place
at the bottom of the percentage col
umn. This state of affairs can’t pos
sibly continue, as the two clubs are
playing the opening game of the series
this afternoon, and, therefore, either
team will have to move up a notch —
The last time that these two clubs met
they were in the same condition, as
now—" Babe” sent them towards the
cellar then, but, will he do it again?—
Let’s all hope so at least.
Pretty touugh luck for Manager
Brouthers yesterday afternoon, wasn’t
it'.’—Just as the game was going good,
the Wilderites had to put the winning
run over the rubber, in the thirteenth
inning—Was "Babe" trying to repeat
that game of the fourteen-inning va
riety which was Just recently pulled in
this burg?
Local talent will put on, at a date to
be announced later, a “Society Vaude
ville.” The purpose of this "get-up”
Is Bimply in order to set the baseball
team on its feet again. The troupe will
be composed of local amateur actors,
all who have splendid records as
“amateur actors.’’—Just watch this
page for further announcement, it’ll
pay.
The Combacks h#ve had a rather
disastrous trip so far. Out of six
games, they have managed to win but
one. Let’s hope that the blanks will
bo filled in this week. What’s the use
of kahibbling. of course we can’t lose
all of the time—not with a ball team
like the one that composes the local
aggregation, at least.
Burgess Is still around here with*hls
base stealing. There’s never a day that
passes that he does not add another or
even a couple to his already high aver
age. However, he managed to steal
but one base yesterday.
