BURGESS WANTS
QUICK ACTION
Wants Judge Sheppard to Pass
As Quicklj As Possible on
Findings of Arbitrators in G.
& F. Award.
Assistant Grand Chief F. A. Burgess,
of the Brotherhood of Locomotive En
gineers, is in the city conferring with
engineers of the G. & F. road arfd
Judge H. C. Roney, their attorney, in
regard to getting an early hearing
from Judge Sheppard in the appeal
from the award of the arbitrators. It
will be recalled that an average in
crease ufjten per cent, was given the
engineers and firemen recently by a
board of arbitrators. Mr. A. W. An
derson tiled a dissenting opinion to
that rendered by the other two arbi
trators and the road's counsel, Mr. W.
H. Barrett, has appealed the award to
the United States court.
Mr. Burgess wants the matter to be
threshed out by the court as soon as
possible so that the matter can pro
ceed on its way to the United States
supreme court which will be the court
of last resort and to which court the
railroad officials, it is understood, will
carry it. In the event the decision of
the arbitrators, which was made un
der the provisions of the Erdman Act,
is upheld, the increased pay of the men
will date from last March.

“FOR SALE —AN INDIAN
GIRL;’’ MERELY A CANOE
Atlanta, Ga.—Quite a flutter of
harmless excitement was caused at the
Athletic Club till* morning when a notice
appeared on the bulletin:
For sale, an Indian girl ”
The notice was signed by a well
known member of the club, a bachelor In
high standing socially. He offered rea
sonable terms, and fellow club members
were not alow to become interested.
Just when the situation became acute,
and suggestions were beginning to be
made that the federal authorities be
called In. It developed that the Indian
girl” In question, was not a dusky hair
ed damsel, but merely a canoe at Fast
Lake, which the owner was endeavoring
to get rid of.
