rUMNS FOR REM'S
CAMP OF THE V.R.U
Will Again Be in Charge of Mr.
T. Balk—Be Gone First Two
Weeks in August.
The regular summer camp of the
Young Men's Christian Association of
this city, for men, will be held at
Blue Ridge, N. C., again this year, so
well did those who went last year
enjoy this spot. The campers will
leave Augusta August 3rd for a two
weeks’ stay in the most delightful
part of the North Carolina mountains.
Mr. T. Balk, an enthusiastic camper
ai:d member of the Y. M. C. u., is in
charge of the arrangements. He is
now receiving applications.
Mr. Balk was in charge of the Y.
M. C. A. camp from Augusta last year
and the fellows say he's a dandy camp
leader. It is confidently believed
that the outing this year will be even
more successful than last summer.
Business men of the city who can
make arrangements to take their
summer vacation at this time will
find this tne most enjoyable and re
creative trip for the small amount of
expenses involved that they could
possibly take. The camp site is said
to be one of the most desirable in
the Blue Ridge mountains. It is
convenient to one of the best summer
resort hotels in that section, and usu
ally the plan of the Augusta camper*
is to sleep in tents and take thelf
meals at the hotel.

Rules For
International
Yacht Races
Secretary Redfield, of the Depart
ment of Commerce, and Secretary
Cormack, of the New York Yacht
Club, conferred last week about pre
liminary arrangements for the inter
national yacht races for the Ameri
ca’s cup on September 10, 12 and 15,
off Sandy Hook. It has been agreed
that, as the success of the races de
pends upon a clear course, only one
press boat, as in previous years, will
be allowed within tne lines. Notice
of this decision is given now so as to
allow the press associations and the
newspapers to charter a suitable
steamer and to arrange for the divis
ion of accommodations on board. Tne
vessel for the purpose must be ap
proved by the Secretary of Commerce
and the New York Yacht Club. Spe
cial arrangements will be necessary
this year to insure the successful
transmission of wireless bulletins
from the course during the progress
of the races. The indiscriminate use
of wireless will interfere with these
messages and deprive those waiting
before bulletin boards the world
round of instant news of the progress
of the races. Such indiscriminate
use will also interfere with the neces
sary daily commercial communication
by wireless between ships at sea and
the port of New York, which must
be disturbed. Accordingly, Secretary
Redfield will make use of the law to
prevent wireless interference, and
will restrict wireless messages re
lating to the races during their prog
ress to the wireless apparatus on the
press boat. Special arrangement wiU
be made to prevent or detect viola
tions of the law punishing wireless
interference. Early notice is given
of this decision to enable the press
associations , newspapers, and wire
less companies to comply with the
regulation. The press and wireless
boat will in all respects be under the
control of an officer of the govern
ment, and Secretary Redfield will ask
Secretary Daniels to detail Capt. W.
H. G. Bullard, U. S. N., Superinten
dent of the Naval Radio Service, for
this purpose. The New York Yacht
Club has suggested, to meet the pub
lic desire this year on both sides of
the ocean for moving pictures of the
races, that one vessel be allowed
within the lines for this purpose.
Secretary Redfield has adopted this
suggestion and the regulations will
provide for one such vessel. Only
one, however, can be permitted, and
this vessel in all respects during the
races will be under the control of an
officer of the government, who will
be selected hereafter. Early notice
is given to enable the moving picture
concerns to unite in chartering a
vessel and make other preliminary ar
rangements. The New York Yacht
Club will name a representative on
the wireless press boat ,and on the
moving picture boat to consult with
officers of the government in control
to insure that the wishes of the Yacht
Club are carried out.
